I used to live in Long Island I have gone monster blue fishing from party boat's that leave from freeport .

Next time I go to area lake will look around and see if any beheaded softshell turtle's and will take a pic . It seem's if caught they are beheaded .

I know it isn't an alligator as head is chopped off . During pre peacock breeding season found 8 in one day. Fishermen hate them but thankfully not many here fish so what is not killed reproduces.

I don't fish that particular lake anymore as only bass and not interested plus a gator was spotted not big like 2 feet but big enough for me .. The turtles ignore lures so whoever did that had to be using hook and bait
my grandpa gets Waterline Magazine at his house in Punta Gorda and mails them to me. I once read an article where the author hooked a softshell turtle in the inside of the mouth on a deep crank.

Surprised as never had one show the slightest interest in a lure. I am glad never hooked a turtle and for most part once they show up .
I pack it up and go as fishing is over .

I have fished a few times with earhworms trying to catch oscars ,etc .They seem to show up within an hour or two if you use bait .
At that point you can't fish anymore unless line is about 10 feet away they don't seem to come any closer .

you try live lining? that helps instead of using lures. i never heard of mullets but rock fish, and blues around me prefer livelines...chessapeak bay FTW!!!

well i dont use live bait and if ur talking about for large Bluefish they all work. By rockfish u mean stripers? no lagal size striper can be used as live bait for anything but large sharks:confused:

Few months a yr there are Peacock bass that breed in the areas in shallow water.
I caught a few before breeding season than stopped fishing in area to let them breed.
Some catch them and eat them during breeding season which is wrong IMO as now eggs are unguarded and the sunfish.etc eat them all.

6 mating pairs were caught and removed 2 months ago in my area lake which is a shame. Soft shell turtles they will also kill .

I actually avoid Peacock bass now at all cost as only interested in little cichlids .

I see no problem in removing invasive species.

Welcome to the world of pier fishing....err I usually call it combat fishing. However what they did was perfectly legal and throwing a shad over is not that big of a deal.

welcome to the world of fishing bro
i know it seems bad but alot of worse things occur
i gill net bunker..... nothing illegal on the mullet either, shad are few in far between in my area now
those sorts of things dont make me angry, people who drive their boat into a school of stripers repetitively, and destroy the awesome fishing, cut us off and then almost tbone us makes me cast bucktails at them until i hit them ( if you didnt get the idea, thats what happened this morning)

what makes me pissed is people who dont care about limits especially on stripers when i fish the ct i see mexicans who take like 20" or smaller schoolies that pisses me off

i guess people who just arent "avid fishermen" and fish a few times a week, and think something they see that is awful is actually a common occurence, nothing that happened to you surprises me people are dbags sometimes, when then happens just scare the hell out of them and they will leave (aka casting and hitting their boat repetitively) or running and chopping all there lines when there trolling because they did that to you going 35 mph

im guessing this huge rant made no sense to you guys haha

here in MD we can live line anything, but ya stripped bass we call them rock fish here :nilly:tastes amassing there are some strict laws on rockfish.

I don't buy the "don't eat what you catch" argument, although I don't think killing for the sake of killing is right. I've fished my whole life. Part of the pleasure is eating your catch. I used to catch lambari by the dozens with my grandfather. Then we would take them back to the house and fry them all and have a giant fish dinner with the family. Did we need to eat those fish? No, but it is part of the enjoyable fishing experience.

Peacock Bass were introduced as a game fish by the Florida fish and game.

Yes its an introduced fish . I find them stunning ESP the big adults so let them be during breeding season watching a pair guarding a nest is an amazing site .
