not necessarily preference because to be honest i prefer the color of my fish under clear water. but most of these fish come from blackwater conditions in SA. just another attempt at making an aquarium as close as possible to their natural environment.
and a note on the ph reading....how the heck am i supposed to get an accurate color reading my water looks like coca-cola?!?!?! :nilly i really should get a digital ph monitor

definitly love the way tannins enhance colors on these particular species.. but i have to concur with LAZ... pH swings and LOW pH will cause problems & situations u dont wanna be in... just speaking from MY experience & opinion...
so when u do, do a water changes dont do it like u did last time and drop the water too LOW.. 15-20% should keep it BALANCED..
by the WAY, your collection looks awsome... keep the GREENS GROWIN!!!
to all that ask in reguards to pH levels... i would keep it @ a minimum of 6.0-6.5 to be safe... anything lower is up to u too monitor...![]()
