This is winston.. legend!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
so no basking spot or UVB source?!!! can you say stunted growth and MBD? but i'm sure you're just going to say "it's my turtle"...

Everyone, relax...

Turtle-Mayhem: There are some areas we would like to address in how you keep your little guy. If we can get those couple things squared away, your turt will be much healthier, happier, and prettier. Do your own research! If you see us say something, go research it! Bottom line is, its your turtle. However, keep in mind that we (as a whole) have decades upon decades of experience.

The tank looks big enough though! Thats a plus =)

Thanks, I can see where you are all coming from, and of course Im going to max out his tank further! hes still only young tho 1-2 years max i got him as a baby and I tell you he has grown like anything! my cousin bought one at the same time as me and its 1/3 its size he thinks Its Not normal!

N yeah It is a large tank, also have a spare 3ft for when the time comes to re-house the cichlids..

I also have almost a decade exp :)

Your giving it way too much animal protein. I assume that when you say that you give him fish its from the grocery market correct:confused: NEVER EVER give to your turtle or any other animal any fish that dies in your tanks, the risk of patogens is way too high and they can afect your turtle, make her cronicly hilll or kill her. And you really need to include vegetable matter in its diet. In the wild once they are full grown some cooters are 100% herbivors and in most the bulk of the diet is aquatic plants. If you do that your turtle can sufer from severe kidney, liver and heart hillness, and beleave me when I say that you dont want to go that way:grinno: Your turtle needs to shed the excess phosphate that may be acumulated in its body. For that nothing better than leafy greens(you can float them in the tank and even the fish will munch on them) like turnip greens, mustard greens, water cress, chicory greens and kale. Your turtle will eat them all with gusto even if needs some time to get used to it:D

Yeah I buy the frozen packs of fish from the petstore, I beleive its stint maybe?! but its only a treat every so often.. I also get the green food frozen blister packets for him :)

Yea what is defenetly missing there its the basking spot, but you have such a high tank you shure can lower the water level a few inches for it;)
