This species of Thorichthys is often referred to as the Yellow Firemouth (or even worse, Yellow Meeki, argh!) By connecting it to a long term, mainstay cichlid like the Firemouth (in the minds of some fish sellers), should serve to improve its marketability. It's a shame that it hasn't yet achieved more notoriety of it's own though because it is a fish that is outstanding in its own right. Hopefully that will change. Here are a few pictures of one of my two pair. They have decided it's time to spawn and have staked out a territory, anchored by a rock, right in the middle of the 90G tank. They have been letting the other inhabitants know that they mean business, but, as with the other members of this genus, it consists of mostly gill flaring and posturing with no real damage resulting. Here are some stills of the pair.

Nice pair and hope they spawn soon. I've always wanted to do a t. Pasiones and meeki tank since I read an article in Freshwater and Marine aquarium by Juan Miguel Artigas Azas. In this article he said that in some locations these two sp. are found together. I wonder how small groups would work out.

Yes, They're a very unique Thorichthys. Hopefully, you'll have achance to obtain some up the road.

It would be nice to try that combination in a large tank ... with some wild Swordtails. A real CA biotope. BTW they spawned this morning

Awesome fish... Beautiful. If I ever saw one, I would definitely not go home without it...or 2.
You're weak ... just like me. Can't pass up a great fish!!

The pasionis spawned this morning, not on the rock but on the back glass. There is some serious defending going on as expected. One unusual thing is the male's head standing. An intimidation tactic, I suppose. Here are some photos.

They look great. Ive been wanting these guys for years but every time I get space I'm too impatient to track some down.

Yes, there are many beautiful Thorichthys species besides Meeki, but they are not commonly available. I tried T. elioti couple times, beautiful fish, but I found them not hardy vulnerable to bacterial infection.
