Hi all,

Had a tragedy and lost 2 fish and my 125 gallon is empty except for an 8" polypterus senegalus. I am trying to get thoughts on what to do next.
I was thinking about trying to plant the tank or switch to a sand substrate, or just something new.
I have a monster in a seperate tank, I was thinking something about 6-12 inches for the new tank. Or maybe a small school of a species. Its a tall tank, so all the 'layers' could be represented well.
It has an integrated sump, I use a HOT magnum filter for additional filtration, and I have an airpump connected to around a 15 inch bubble wand. There is a good amount of wood in the tank for ample cover.
Looking for ideas on what fish to look at next? Open to pretty much anything, just trying to consider my options.

Thanks alot!

TATS? Dont get the abbreviation
I was thinking about maybe a nice p. ornatipinnis or an endli. You think they would do OK with my skittish senegal?

they'd do fine.
but get pretty big.
around 2 feet.
may eat the sen.
why not get like 10 polys...:screwy::naughty:
tats as in hydrolycus tatauaia aka redtail payara.

OOOOK, Tats, I got it. I would love a school of tats. Definately cant afford it right now and I'm not sure of the space issue?
A polypterus tank is an idea but my tank is tall so it seems like a waste to not throw in a good assortment of middle and upper-level dwellers.
I'd also like to keep my senegalus safe. It's his tank now, after all.

whats the dimensions of the 125?
tats grow pretty slow,if not the larger bichirs, then why not some more senegals, palamas sp.,and some delhezi.

60 inches X 18 inches (a few inches are lost because of filter)x 24 inches

5ft X 1.5 ft X 2ft

Polys are great, but I couldnt picture too many of them in this tank.
I've been keeping fish for around 15 years but I have confined myself to the same species over and over again.
Looking for some fresh ideas!

Thanks

tats will grow out that tank..
but it'd last pretty long.
the width is the only problem.
but there are loads of cool fish that can go into there.
what sort of fish are you really interested in?

I am interested in lots. I have traditionally kept gar, arowana, TSN's and Clown Knives in different tanks throughout the years. I am looking to break away from this and try something new.
I am looking to maybe do a sand substrate type setup, or maybe a heavily planted tank with some ambush predators...but I'd also like some life in the tank, ya know?
I am thinking of trying out some smaller, "mini" monsters.
I think this would accomodate the tank size well, and be a new adventure for me.

Plus, I already have a seperate tank housing a beast, so I am good in the monster department.

Thanks

I like oddball fish a whole bunch I should mention.
Anything strange or unique or the only available represenative of a genus I would love to get ahold of.
