Thats a great idea, I was actually thinking about an African Butterfly today...
I have started to plant out my tank got a couple huge swords and some hornwort and javafern, so Ill see how that works out. Tank is stocked with driftwood, and I impulsively brought home a ctenopoma. I know a good amount about them as Ive kept them in stores, just never had the opportunity to keep one at home because of my recently lost beasts.
Are chalceus schooling or will they do OK alone? I dont want to overstock but I would like some movement in my tank, and the more unusual the better.
Also, I am in need of a good catfish that will help sift through the gravel.
Also thinking maybe a climbing perch?
Thoughts?

Thanks

nice buy. :D
chalceus will be fine alone but better in a school.
climbing perch are cool.
kept them before.
pretty active.

can you find charax species?

Not familiar with them, just looked them up on fishbase. Charax gibbosus are you talking about?
Sweet lookin fish!
I could keep an eye out for them and check in the marketplace, my stores around here are generally awful in terms of stock. (UPDATE: Think they might be illegal in some places here, not sure about NY though)
I'd like to balance out the mini-monsters with some decent size active fish. I could stock my tank all day with reclusive fish but then id never see them :(

They look great.
Any thoughts for a catfish? Wanna keep the bottom clean....

im not good with cats. :D
only the really oddball ones.
but those dont exactly keep the bottom clean...

Nice pick up on the Ctenopoma. My favorite fish, you could try some clown loaches to sift through the gravel. They are really slow growers, so you don't have to worrý about them outgrowing the tank for some time. Pike cichlids(like sp.Bellycrawler) are great too, brought my ctenopomas out of hiding. They get about 8".

Any tips on how to feed the ctenopoma? Its probly about 3 inches max and in a 125 with lots of wood plants....

Thanks alot
