Hello: I get what you say and always like to hear from those with experience. I also get there are a lot of negatives in such an idea. I guess we are throwing out notions, brainstorming, I use to call it.I am a veteran poster on political forums. It can get heated, understandably. Most have some version of a TD. On most, it see relatively little traffic.
Most are there to discuss issues and on political forums, TD type subforums are very lax in rules and insults fly, to the extent it sees traffic.
However, on one, they had a "basement". A group of posters mainly lived there. They would venture onto the main forum and get butthurt in debate.
So they would C&P a quote (so you got a notification) and start a basement, call out thread. About the only thing off limits was threats of violence. Eventually, the mods had to add a rule about family being off limits.
They had a rule about not mentioning the basement exchanges on the main forum. However, the toxicity inevitably carried over onto the main board. I was around long enough to clearly see it.
While I know the OP is not suggesting anything that extreme, I guess my point is, such a thing can turn into a beast without some basic rules of decency, strictly enforced.
Such subforums are always members only, the lurkers don't see them. The extreme one I mentioned, required 500 member post to access.Hello: I get what you say and always like to hear from those with experience. I also get there are a lot of negatives in such an idea. We are already off to a Thunderdome start discriminating against the dummy’s huh.Maybe just a requirement for not having a below average IQ, aka a requirement for not being very stupid, because those people are much more likely to get into flame wars. TBH, I don't even know what my actual IQ is, I've taken legit IQ tests and stuff, but the result have been quite varied, since it really depends on how you're feeling the day of the test, but I've never tested as having a below average full-scale IQ. Someone who is truly stupid can't score high on an IQ test, but someone who has a high IQ could score low if they are tired/don't care to take the test, etc. That is the fatal flaw of IQ tests. Or maybe a requirement for a minimum post count of 200 and no active/current infractions?
It's the Dunning-Kruger effect.I can’t be offended cause that would make me a dummy.
See now I gotta Google it! Hang onIt's the Dunning-Kruger effect.
