So called "back-seat" moderation should be discouraged. If you think something might be against the rules, report it. You need to have faith in the staff.
Hello; You may not have read the post by the Mod (Chicklux sp). In a post he clearly stated that one of the expectations of actions members need to do if they are to have a lounge is to self-police. I think the post was in the now closed thread he started about recent activities in the lounge.

Self-policing (reporting posts) is different from back-seat moderating (members acting like staff when they really are not).

What are you even talking about ? We do that all of the time in this section. Stop playing dumb to impress people it isnt working.

More of the same.

Hello; Like I said the Mod made the statement in a post. That was not my opinion. I just paraphrased what he posted. You are wrong.

While it is good to have some self-policing, I think it has the potential to get out of hand, a line should be drawn somewhere. Where that line is drawn is up to the staff, not me.

Hello; There was a point to this thread which I fear is being lost. The recent exchange with RD wherein I used some of his statements illustrate part of what is an issue as things are now run.
Now as things are we report to the Mods and let them deal but the Mods, understandably, do not want to have to deal with all the stuff. Also there are not enough Mods and so on. The Mods are not having fun. I do get it.

Some of us peons do actually try to self police threads ( refer to a recent example of an old member posting a gun image. That was taken care of by a peon and no Mod involved.) However some are not so reasonable as that returned old member and ignore us peons.

A question, if what has been done for years has many negative issues why not then consider some new ideas? Guess miracles are not to be expected but what is the advantage of doing the same old thing?

If I were to lobby for only one thing at this point that first thing would be to open PM conversations to more than six participants.

It is clear there will not be a thunderdome type thing. So be it. However some other less radical ideas have been put forth. Anyway thought I would try to nudge things back on track before we get "This thread has run it's course" message and it gets shut down.

Hes clearly wrong everyone that spends time in this section knows that self policing is a norm.

Chalk it up to being caught up in the moment.

Either way can bring this discussion back to how it could work ? Yes we've heard who doesnt like it great. Now that we have two pages dedicated to that lets move past it.

Hello; The following is quoted from the Mod.

"The entirety of those two threads was a five alarm dumpster fire.

-There were 17 reports
-Both sides tried to get the staff to enforce on their behalf
-There was trolling
-There were people trying to be the polite police
-Snitches for days
-Pot stirring
-Wild TOS violations

"Just everything about those threads was awful."

The deal made a few years ago when JK47 JK47 allowed you all to have the Off Topic thread and to use the lounge with minimal oversight was that you all would avoid trolling and self police.

It appears as though that may have been forgotten, in which case we will have to step back in and take the reins again.

Believe it or not, I don't want that any more than any of you do. That's not how I want to have to spend my time on this site."
