Kramer - yes, that does in fact look like the early stages of HITH. Quite frankly, it is rare to see an adult oscar WITHOUT it. They almost go hand in hand. I have NEVER seen a fish die from HITH in fact - If it goes unchecked, the whole face area gets wasted away. When TAKEN CARE OF PROPERLY, it will remain slight spotting, as in this photo and not affect the fish's health.

Even though it may be rare to see an adult oscar without HITH, IMO it still means the fish isn't taken care of properly because I believe this disease is directly linked to water quality and nutrition. When my oscar started getting HITH I freaked out and doubled up on water changes and bought a variety of high quality foods for her, didn't even get a chance to buy supplements and she healed up in 2 weeks thankfully with no scars at all. Take care of all these beautiful oscars everyone!

yes, HITH can be treated relatively easily if its in an early stage like that albino's. you might have a little scaring afterwards but it'll look nicer.

i've heard oscars can hold their pattern better if they are taken extremely good care of, like lots of w/c's and high quality food.

Nice O, And PP Glad to see you posting again even if it is with a little
attitude.

Thanks for the questions/comments people.

A couple of the marks on him are from my aro, who leaves his marks on everyone from time to time. But, to tell you the truth, he has had those pits ever since he was a little guy and they have just expanded as he grew.

I thought it was the starting phases of HITH when I first bought him (at about 3") but they are symmetrical on his head...who knows.

Just to put your minds at ease...I do a 50% water change about every 4 days my 150 and he gets only the best foods, so there is no issue with care and maintenance.

The symmetrical little holes in the front of the face are pit sensors. The bigger holes in the side of the head look like HITH.

There is this thing called LLE....;). Its where the sensors and pits along the lateral line start to erode, just like HITH...;)

Shadow, haha. Bring on the 'tude....lol. Not much gets under my skin, but sometimes I can get annoyed...believe it or not......;)

I like to use HLLE to combine the two, Head and Lateral Line Erosion. Not sure why I typed HITH lol, slipped my mine.

I thought HITH and LLE were synonymous.
