red - I gathered that T1's point about Tigs dying was that it was especially strange given that no other fish just die on him, so there must be something up with tigs specifically.

I've never owned a tigrinus myself and don't know much about them, but i can vouch that T1's setup is perfect, so a tig dying is nothing he's doing wrong.

I guess that's where the confusion comes from.

Oh and I want one now :D they really do rock, coolest catfish I've seen in the flesh. Funkier than a RTC and not as obscenely large.

Hold on , how many tigs have died on tikarmann? And even if a fish died on you , Assuming that theres a problem with tigs in general as an aquarium fish is pure speculation and highly unscientific . Just my opinion of course.

i have lost 3 in 2yrs

i have had 4 tigs in total one was 14inch and i know for sure it was wild caught is still alive and doing well and is up to 18inch (and doing well with the guy i sold it to)

the 3 that died were the cheaper ones that i think were captive bred

and the one i have now which i know for sure which is also wild caught make 5

Sorry to hear. But like heppy said , it could be the source where you got it from.
the locale, the store or could be even the way you keep your fish, not questioning
your ability as a fishkeeper of course but there might be specific requirements like i mentioned, know or unknown , that might help keep the tig live longer.

Edit : How did you know the 3 were captive bred?

the hump thing is down to over feeding which is also what i said at the start of the thred

and everyone said no its not

when the hump starts to show bad from what i have seen the tig will only have a few weeks/month to live unless you stop feeding it

beautiful fish, Think I will wait a few years before trying to raise one myself. I want to see what you guys come up with in your debates first. On another note, not to be morbid, but I am currently in the airfore and stationed in Montana. I am pursuing a degree in biology for the anatomical study of zoology. I love to study cranial morphology, and if anyone's tig or any other fish dies, I would gladely pay a fee for the head or whole body, so that I can further my studies. Hope I don't sound too morbid with that said. I appreciate any help thanks
Cliff

I cut my tig's food intake way down to about once a week and he's doing great. Staying slender but filled out and also alot more active. I recommend the same for anyone keeping a tig. Btw, none are captive bred!

I feed it until theres a ball in the tummy. Then i let it go for a day or 2 without feeding
then i feed again.

Um, I don't know about America but here in the UK several stores that have tigs in stock have confirmed to me that most of them are captive bred, so yes they are captive bred.
