Im would not gut them. I think i read in some thread about this subject to get the full nutritional value of the fish you feed with the guts have to be there.

I know for a fact that i can buy the larger anchovis and feed to my mature rays as the smallest one is 38cm wd and largest a bit over 50cm wd. As for my pups im growing out i try to feed them a staple on pellets then as extra treats i feed herring, mussels, the machrobrachium shrimps i buy and earthworms.

The large rays i feed mainly frozen and occational pellets when im lazy.

So far have not tried pellets... somehow prefer them on frozen

My Aros absolutely love frozen ghost shrimp -- the only (possible) issue is that LFS advised me to cut their heads off (something along the lines of possibility of toxins accumulating there), which takes a long time with how small they are -- I pay my daughter or the maid to cut off the heads and re-freeze after dousing with a bit of vitamin solution.

Also even though they're not very big I (probably over) worry about the spikes getting caught in digestive tract or stomach. But I know others don't take off the heads (just like in nature) and apparently don't have any issues. What about you Tobias do you feed whole or cut off the heads of machrobrachium shrimps?

Yeah I know it sounds kind of ludicrous, but that's what the gal at my LFS (which specializes in monster fish, incl. a lot of Arowana) told me, so I took it for granted it was true (while also admittedly wondering if they did it for all their tanks...). I know it's generally better nutritionally to keep the heads on, but knowing also how these shrimp are raised here I did get paranoid about the possibility of toxins accumulating in the head area -- I really don't know if there's any scientific basis to this and am happy to be corrected if wrong.

Also even though they're small the head spikes are still sharp; I was worried that my Aros (then about 10") might get internally impaled; maybe as they're bigger now (~14") it wouldn't be an issue, but I'm just playing on the safe side in both regards, even if unnecessary. Also as both likewise readily eat pellets, I'm not too worried about missing out anything nutrionally.

Besides, it's a good Karate Kid-like learning exercise for my daughter (who also earns ~$5)

That said, if it is frozen or freeze dried, there is a possibility the head is harder than usual I guess

I feed the whole with pinchers and head. I feed large defrosted shrimps whole to.

Edeka has some frozen filets, at least in Berlin.

Unfortunately none of the Edekas around here is selling tilapia.
But i got a bag of frozen filets from the wholesale today
But i'm not 100% convinced about the Ingredients:

-70% Tilapia
-Freshwater
-Salt
-acid regulator(E500, E330)
-stabilizer(E450,452)
from chinese aquaculture

Is there anything i should worry about?
(I don't hope so, because this is the only tilapia i get down here^^)

I would just use the coalfish or catfish. I do not like the preservatives in that list. Whitefish filets (including tilapia) arent nutritionally the best anyways and should really only be one part of a varied diet...

Yes, i have many other things on my polys diet, too.
I'm just worried, that some of the tilapias ingredients may harm my polys.
