Tiretrack Eel Questions?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well if it does look like the first pic then I agree with Mudfrog, PVC pipe may help and then feed lots of cold worms, bloodworm's, and it will grow then eventually. Good luck with your eel.

My (late) SpeedBump was spoiled for anything but Nightcrawlers - at 33" he was known to eat over a dozen at at time! You'll also find that their patterning will fade with age - SpeedBump was about 10yrs old and you could barely see his patterning. My fiancee, who has only seen him in the last year, didn't even recognize him as being the same as the pics here on the board. And even after 10yrs (and at 33"), he still liked to try and keep himself hidden, but would occasionally come out and swim around the tank.

I think I have some, I'll have to look - not sure how good they are. I always seem to regret not taking enough pics of things and people :(

Feed them:D

Try earthworms, market shrimp(stuff them with pellets) fish fillets cut to size, even beef and chicken hearts and livers. Once they get bigger most foods are gladly accepted.

Also use cation with your tankmates, they can eat larger fish then they look capable of.
Pretty much.
I have had one since last summer. It just finally started eating pellets a month and a half a go! It would only eat worms here and there.
Now since it eats pellets it has grown from 5 to 9 inches in 45 days.

One more thing, when they get big they WILL escape. So escape proof it.

I have had mine for 7 months and he has doubled in size. From about 7" to 15-16". I feed whole frozen krill and shrimp stuffed with pellets. He hides in an ornament but always has his head sticking out. He comes out every evenig for 2-3 hrs. I will have to try worms too, maybe he'll grow even faster! See his pic in my avatar. Goodluck these guys are awesome.
