I've noticed that in most community tanks there is atleast one oscar swimming around in there! Im one of those people. Tell me if you fall into that category as well!

Yeah... I'm one of those people. I know they are "common" and many people don't like them either because they are "ugly" or just too common a fish to be in some folks tank. I don't care. Common or not, they still have a nice combination of both physical color and colorful personality. I'll probably always have one among my community fish.

I'm one of them, its hard to find a full grown oscar without HITH around here, I found two nice ones and then kept the better of the two. Ive tried many times with oscars over the past year, they all seemed to not want to get along with any other fish. I finally have one that doesnt bother anyone unless bothered himself. He doesnt go on a rampage, just lets the other fish know he isnt going to back down :)

I think oscar are attractive when they are young. Juveniles are active and constanlty swimming at a 45 degree angle begging for food. Few cichlids have that perfectly elliptical shape, bright orange color, and cute behavior. But once they mature, they slow down like an old man. Their mature face looks like a sick old man with huge goldfish bulging eyes, bulldog mouth and HITH scars. It doesn't matter that their body is still in good shape, their ugly face ruins the beauty.

If your adult oscars are with hith scars, you are doing something wrong...

I have one as well. I like him cos he's got a lot of personality and eats out of my hand and isn't aggressive to the other fish at all.

Here's a pic

Yeah... my oscar does not have any HITH scars or anything like that. Ol' Bubba keeps us laughing. He's like a freakin' puppy dog any time someone enters the room, begging for food. It's pretty funny. And at feeding time, talk about a bully! He tries his best to get every pellet he can before ANYONE can get them. Of course he doesn't get them all, but I am always amazed at how many of them he can suck into that gaping mouth with one try! LOL... he's a crazy, but entertaining, fish!

Not necessarily. You can do weekly water change, and many oscars still get HITH. Oscars, like discus and angel fish, came from soft water region of Amazon basin and are vulnerable to HITH if the water chemistry is not right.
