I was thinking about the toilet smelling funny...

If you smelled my toilet when I was done with it, you would never worry about it again. Actually, I don't think you would be able to smell again :D

You aren't suppose to put your butt in the water :nilly:

Splash-back happens!

I'll put it on my list of things not to do. :)

The local proctologist was running a sale on low velocity butt valving, so I don't think about that problem anymore. When I asked him to fix the second problem, he said to call a plumber to install a fart fan...

You know a thread has passed its usefull life when we have to start making stuff up

Really? The proctologists around here will never cut you a deal!

Definitely. But it really is a good idea.

put the toilet next to your tank, imagine, watching your fish and.......rofl

I have been waiting for everyone's creative juices to start flowing, but...

Anyway, where are the designs? I know this is do-able because I already thought it through. There are several problems that you will encounter, but there is a solution to each one. Initially I thought this would be too complex to do but it is actually quite simple.

I won't be providing a sketch any time soon because my nephew caused my tabletPC pen to grow legs and walk off. Eventually I'll draw up something crude just to illustrate what is in my head.

Any takers on this design challenge?

I don't think flushing your toilet with saltwater would be so good. Most toilets still have metal parts (brass bolts holding tank to bowl) that would corrode. Plus it just makes for more cleaning headaches.

Brass bolts are used to avoid corrosion, steel bolts would be an issue... One issue sill actually be the rubber parts, not the metal. Also clogs of the filler tube. you will need to have a pre-filter for large debris.

This is a good idea, but also a bad idea. I wouldn't want my underside exposed to dirty fish water. There are bacteria, parasites, planaria, snails, ect, in fish tanks that would transfer to the toilet. Imagine getting fish tb on your butt hole.

Bleach or blue tabs are key for this to be more pleasant

Actually, up until recently I had a tank in the John (post on here somewhere)

Anyone seriously thinking of this will need to have a way to by-pass the system, perhaps automatic after a certain # of flushes per day..

I do know a guy who had a drip system void to his toilet, but the toilet still used fresh water..

never though about the water actually touching your butt - that is something to think about.

As for exact plans - i have none. My family is building a house in a few years though, so that is probably where and when i would implement this device, so i would not have to rework everything. I would think it would be best to have a sump below your tank, and take the water from there, so that the main tank would not constantly fluctuate. If the sump and toilet tank had the exact same water level, would having a one way valve to the toilet tank work? So that the water automatically siphoned into the toilet tank after the toilet was flushed? And then have an automatic topoff system in the sump.

as for too much water changes: If i did this, it would be on a larger tank (100 gallons plus). I have heard of people changing 50% of their water daily, so assuming we could have 50 gallons of water used per day, and you had a low - volume flushing toilet (under 2 gallons), you could use the toilet 25 times a day. I have a family of five, so that would mean each person could use that toilet 5 times a day, which seems about right, besides the fact that i would have more than one toilet in my house.

So, does this all make sense, or is this just a pipe dream?

It can be done. no need to exact the sump to the toilet. the tank/sump could be on an different floor (higher).. then the water would flow down as needed & the ball valve would handle the shut off. then you need a similar shut off in the sump. I can see it in my head..
