Toni and Nemo my albino Oscar's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
And the water parameters are good? No temp fluctuations? No electric current or malfunction of epuipment?

Maybe I do worry too much but bottom sitting right next to the glass just doesn't seem right.

Water is fine, gets fin lvl water changes every 3rd day now. There is nothing that can pass current into the tank, heater is not plugged in. She is dealing with the heat wave like all of us this summer. Her tank has been fluctuating from 86 at high in the day to 78 at night. I have solved this now by freezing a case of water bottles. To place in the tanks to help keep them cooler.

I hope she's just being moody. :/ i wish i had more experince with Oscars and their behavior to draw from.

Well if she dont straighten up then I will either get a big fish and toss it in there, see if that changes her attitude any, or just rehome her. She is acting like a jilted ex, won't have anything to do with me, won't eat, barley swims around when I am not in the room, mostly just hovers in her sulking spot above the heater.......faking playing dead or just sitting on the bottom when I am in the room....

Is there anything in the tank she can move around? Maybe she needs something to do...I don’t want to say she’s bored as I don’t think fish really get bored. I’m just thinking that she has no competition, steady food, no mate to display for, so she’s just chilling. Didn’t she use to have tank mates and a large amazon sword that she spent time ripping apart? Maybe more stimulus would trigger her to be more active again.

I see where you are coming from, I'll see if I can scrounge up some money for ping pong balls, or fake plants she can "play" with. Maybe the ice bottles can help with this as well. I will put one in now and see what she does.

Well this whole ice bottles might be a bad idea...the cracking noise of the ice melting freaks her out and she darts across the whole tank blindly.....

Run the bottle under water first to get rid of the cracking if your trying to cool the water. If it’s just for a toy try it empty...might be too late for that now though if she’s already freaked out by it

Also I see how she has always had tankmates or at least me to watch when she was in my room.

When younger the Roseline sharks, then SDs, and Hotlipz for a long while. Maybe I will grab a Sevrum or something with some decent size on it from the Wet Spot to live with her till I grow her out a mate.

I want one of them Albino Red's the Wet Spot has in for her mate. Gonna set up the bowfront to grow him out till about 7in. Big enough to not fit thru the hole in the divider for Catness to go back and forth. Then get him to her size before removing the divider.
