Too Aggressive Firemouth

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ya neither of those fish are 6" long unless i see a measuring tape next to them. they only look about 4"

Your tank is too small for those fish together.

Adding a scat is a horrible idea. When the mature they need a salt water enviroment.

alright guys...it's not the size i am asking about.

Size matters(that's what she said)
Seriously, if you are having problems with them at that size I would seperate them now because that tank will be too small for the GT eventually anyway. I have a 7" GT(really 7") and there is no way I could think about having him in a 30. I would suggest a 55 for just the GT to live in for life

so you just have a GT in the 55 Gallon?
I have stated before that I will be getting a bigger tank as it grows.

2 ways to measure aggression. If theres some chase and some occasional nipping, this is pretty normal. This is how cichlids socialize. Now, if you see constant harrassment, biting, stalking etc, then you know that the aggressive one will kill the other.

Some cichilds are only aggressive when its feeding time, then once its over everything calms down. If you really need to, add some dithers, small and fast like some barbs or danios.
