so you just have a GT in the 55 Gallon?
I have stated before that I will be getting a bigger tank as it grows.

No. I have a GT and a 5" pike cichlid in a 75. Mine grew from 3" to 7" in four months. If you are having problems now and plan on getting a tank when the GT out grows the 30, why not get that tank now and keep the fire mouth in the 30?

Great Answer!!
Thank you very much.

2 ways to measure aggression. If theres some chase and some occasional nipping, this is pretty normal. This is how cichlids socialize. Now, if you see constant harrassment, biting, stalking etc, then you know that the aggressive one will kill the other.

Some cichilds are only aggressive when its feeding time, then once its over everything calms down. If you really need to, add some dithers, small and fast like some barbs or danios.

Thank you for the input.
I will probably get rid of FM.
and get 55 gallons later.
I just do not have any room and my spouse hate the fact that I have any tanks at this moment.

Scats frequent both brackish and saltwater throughout their lifetime. I personally had one for close to ten years in a 135g. I have also kept most of my CA cichlids in brackish set-ups. They do fine. I am not sure about a lot of the SA cichlids. Scats can be slightly aggressive and reach a decent size. They won't be inhaled like a tiger barb or danio. I have kept them with a large jag and red devils, but in a large tank. Tank size can ameliorate aggression to certain degree. I am surprised to hear that firemouths can be so mean.
