TOP 10 MOST AGGRESIVE CICHLIDS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Threads like these hardly ever remain peaceful. I agree with the majority of fish on the Top Aggressive list, except for a few like JD,Sevs,Oscars, and the small African Cichlids. But like everyone knows, there are always some that break the norm. I actually had a Psycho Severum many years ago that ruled the tank. But there are just some species that are more likely than not to be very aggressive. I think most of those have been mentioned. Tank space, stocking, and overall experience with keeping various cichlids will give people different results and ideas of cichlid aggression. One man's super aggressive JD could be bait in another man's tank. A lot of cichlids have the potential of being aggressive under certain circumstances.

There's always an exception to the norm but that doesn't mean that in general, they should be on the top 10 most aggressive list of cichlids...agreed?

You shouldn't have such a chip on your shoulder if you plan on posting in public forums. I said I apologize and I'll try and remember you get your feelings hurt easily. Really and seriously, I didn't mean to offend, it was just some silly kidding around. And I' don't think I'm considered an expert because of post count, just a social person lol.

You didn't hurt my feelings.Anyways This is from my experience of keeping cichlids long enough to know what goes on.Yes my Severum prefers to mind its own business, but it will get into fights with the ones I have listed.I have tried to bring in another Oscar that was full grown into my tank, cause my brother decided its cool to have 3 oscars in a 55 gallon, that didn't work out too well,so I had to put his Oscar back into his tank, due to my 10 inch Oscar mopping the floor with his Oscar.

Guys my goal is getting list so I can make my own list for my side project I WANT LIST 1 TO 10 from everyone possible what they think the most aggresive cichlids are 1 to 10 PLEASE keep the list and the opinions coming the more the the better im taking tallies and doing my own research GIVE ME MORE LIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nastiest cichlid for its size hands down is a Hemichromis Faciatus. Good luck finding any and they cannot be housed with anything but themselves. I've kept them all and have been for 20 years. I have never seen a cihlid let alone a fish this nasty.

haven't been on MFK in a few months, seems it hasn't changed much

Surprised to not see an Emperor on anyones list. Pound for pound Jewels are right on par with Cons in my experience. And I have a Firemouth that's really aggressive.... all bark but aggressive nonetheless. I think it really depends on the fish though.

i had a jewel cichlid that was a complete psycho , it got into a fight with my male green terror which was about 3 times the size, the green terror ripped off one of it's pectoral fins and it still wouldn't back down , i had to give the jewel back to my lfs as it wouldn't stop attacking the terror.

Heres my list not in order because it depends on the fish

jag
dovii
blackbelt cichlid
pikes
umbee
midas
red devil
jack dempsey( can be very nasty)
black nasty
texas
buttis

These lists are completely inconclusive...because 90% of peoples opinions are from stuff theyve read, not experienced, as well as posters inexperience of keeping the fish they list IF theyve had them, tank sizes, parameters, diet etc etc etc.

You could always use the search feature on the left hand side of the forum and find all the top 10 list you can imagine..that everyone does about 30x a year, then your "side project" will be complete faster than you can say "REPOST".
