IN YOUR HEAD
i can't seem to decide

xdm .45 or xdm .40:nilly:

i will be reloading my own shells and i just don't know what one to get. before a glock person says their bit on glock, i was thinking about a glock 22 gen4, but i found one and held it today and i don;t care for the fit in my hand it is "too square".

any opinions on witch one to get?

The .45 fits better in my big old gorilla hands. That in itself leaves me picking the .45 I suggest finding them both at the same place and seeing how they feel in your hands.

Glock 19. Seriously, best handgun ever.

But between the two, go .45 or get 9mm.

Quality 9mm defensive loads perform exceptionally well. 9mm is also MUCH cheaper then the other two to practice with and you also get higher capacity.

I hate .40. Recoil is too sharp for me to shoot accurately and because it offers very little if any advantage of stopping power over 9mm plus you dont have as many rounds per mag, its worthless IMO.

.45 is better shooting for me, but the price and decreased capacity keep me from it in all guns but 1911s.

Seriously look at 9mm. You can practice with it twice as much as you could with .45 for the dollar and I would rather shoot against some one with a .45 that doesnt practice then some one with a 9mm, heck a bb gun for that matter, that actually practices.

Hello; The 40 has similar ballistic energy properties to the 45 and some applications will hold more rounds per magazine. I do not know about the number of rounds in the XD's. I have had both and kept the 40. The 40 round seemed to hold up better over distance to me. I used to shoot a Colt 911 in 45 and had to hold the aim point considerably higher than with the 40. I kept the S&W 4006 over the Colt 911 for reasons other than the additional magazine capacity. That being the better, in my opinion, safety features of the S&W. This difference will not likely apply to the XD's.
Other than magazine capacity difference, if there is any, the only other criteria that comes to mind for consideration is the cost to reload the ammo.
You probably cannot go wrong with either gun.

I love the XD40, even my hands are small, It feels good even with the recoil. Follow up shot is can be done fast with good accuracy. To me, the 45 has too much recoil. (My first handgun is glock 36 (45 compact) for carry conceal and I hate it , never worn it conceal)...If you reload your ammo, then ammo cost would not be a problem... I prefer small bore hand gun, quick to draw, and aim, quick follow up shot with accuracy... but that's just me, since most people prefer big gun instead....That arguement never ended (big versus small).

The XD is a great platform. As for .40 vs 45 , Id consider the 9mm 147 federal HST. 40 really offers no advantage. The 45 is well known for its stopping power and recoil. The new technology in the 147grn Federal HST in 9mm is amazing. I carry it every day in my on duty and off duty weapons. For what its worth, it gives you a higher capacity, less recoil, and less cost. I used to carry a 40 until my dept tested the 147 gnr 9mm HST. Now I get more rounds, less recoil, and its abilities are right up there next to 45acp! Id also check out the M&P if your not a glock fan. The M&P is a really nice platform too.

What is then purpose of this pistol?
-carry?
-home protection?
-target shooting?

What pistols do you own now?

These are important considerations to ponder before I can give you an answer.

If your decided on the Springfield, Just remember the XD-M has alot more raised edges and bumps. it will not be as comfortable to carry as the regular XD if your talking IWB. Its a great platform and Springfield is one of the best when it comes to customer service.

If you dont like the hold dont buy glock! end of that for glock boys...

and im with bomber on the point of it totally depends how the pistol is being used and carried on what my answer is on both subjects. with out further info i will say i personally prefer .45 but thats because it suits the job i ask from it...
