tortoise table/coffee table idea?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Due to space constraints i have to modify my orriginal plans a little bit.

Supposing I build it with the compartment area 48 X 18 X 16, what would you put in it? This is roughly the same dimensions as a 75 gallon tank, but as high as a 40gal breeder tank. I will be staining the wood portion of it a deep red cherry color, and will be using black and white marble tile for the interior as well as putting the same tile along the outside of the side panels.

Hi, tortoises cant go in the following:
Glass aquariums
seethrough plastic
nor wooden vivs and specially not COFFEE TABLES!

these shelled critters need either:
table top (turtle table or tub)
rubbermaid tub
indoor rabbit cage
bookcase on its back
or a cardboard box <<better than nowt!

Um, why a wooden vivarium not good for them? Turtle tables are essentially open wooden vivariums... and a lot of breeders keep them in wooden vivariums with a lot of ventilation. If you look at the plan, there's a lot of ventilation anyway.

The glass doors are bad for them, and they get stressed.
the whole idea of open enclosures and no glass sides, is that the air circulation is healthy, and rich and not bad and poor, and that the tortoises dont get stressed

The coffee table design seems to have some good ventilation to me... in fact it is more than what other reptiles are given. Anyway, wooden vivariums does not means glass doors anyway. :screwy:

It have already been established that if tortoises can see way their way out, it is not good for them.

the ventilation on that diagramme is hardly anything a tortoises home needs to be open so it can allow all air to access...not a small amount.

you seem to just have barged right in to the forum... You dont need to be so abrupt.

Dont say someone is wrong unless you have evidence.

ColdCommunity, you have a DA account?
