Trachy trachy

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Figured I'd update the interaction between the Trachy and sun cat. They lying together right now, but not in the trachy's hide, in the curupiras, curu is out swimming right now, Trachy is to but resting here time to time. Saw the Trachy kind of chase the sun cat the other night, so what I believe to have happened was the sun cat trying to go up in the pecking order of the tank, does it to the gold wolf time to time as well but also fails.

I'm experimenting right now. Have a 7" purple wolf in there, tried to hide with the Trachy now is missing a scale or two. I want to put a similar sized marble goby in but didn't want to risk the goby since it's a slow swimmer compared to the wolf. Isn't long term but just experimenting. The goby is probably my favorite personality wise because it constantly begs for food and follows me like a cichlid but is a bottom dweller so it is out of its natural behavior to do so; interesting specimen I've got.

Trachy also stopped trying to bite me during water change when I pet it. Tried getting it to rest in my hand today but it kept swimming, the wolf and the Trachy were throwing a fit like normal. Everyone I do a waterchange I take the dw out to get what's under it and they start splashing and trying to dig in the gravel. Scratches there eyes up. I must say the Trachy, besides its head, had the softest skin of any catfish I've touched.

Quick pic of Trachy back in its hide and what he did to the purple wolf.

Well I moved and only have one tank now. I added the others to the 120. My main worry was my gold wolf picking on the three new inhabitants, marbled goby, jag cat and ery ery. Another worry was the Trachy trying to eat the jag cat. It's been a few nights now. The marbled goby seemed to have got a bite from the much larger black wolf which I saw coming cause he was realcomfortabke sitting in front of the wolf's face. I've only ever seen wolves tolerate that with bichirs and it was this one wolf in particular that did it. The black wolf is literally twice the size of the goby in length and more so in mass. So it was bad. The gold made it worse and started biting at the bitten area. The ery was trying to fight with the gold wolf, odoe and goby the last few days but seems to have settled down. Which is good because the odoe or gold wolf will really mess him up. Things seemed to have settled though hopefully the goby will heal. Tonight was the first time I seen the Trachy and jag out next to each other and is the size difference big. The Trachy is almost as wide as the jag is long. But no aggression between the two. I took a video of them. Here's some pictures. Taken from the vid.

Well I got into a big argument over doing this and was contemplating getting rid of everything as I didn't want to do this nor did I want to get rid of anyone. The thing is, none of my fish are that bad aggression wise. It's just the wolves not only have sharp teeth but they have a pretty strong bite to go with it. And then with the size difference between some fish, it can be a bit devastating. But. Only one actual issue so far. And nothing since so fingers crossed. I may rehome the goby once healed. I just don't feel it has what it takes. It's a slow swimmer, doesn't have big tough scales, teeth and bite aren't matching that of the wolves, and has a little attitude or just thinks everything is sweet at times, so doesn't get out the way when it may be best for him.

As far as the cats, they're the least of my worries as far as territorial aggression goes. Predatory aggression was my worry with the trachy. But hopefully if I keep her fed it'll be alright with the jag. Cool note, when moving the jag I was able to scoop her with my hand no issue, she didn't flow around or anything, only other fish that did the same was my big curupira, petting during wc comes in handy ;) lol

IMG_2717.JPG IMG_2779.JPG IMG_2780.JPG IMG_2781.JPG IMG_2759.JPG Figured I'd give a little update, she's doing good no issues. Tank is down to her, jag cat, gold wolf and odoe. Odoe and wolf swim all day, Trachy and jag swim all night literally. It's interesting watching the jag and Trachy swim with eachother considering the size difference. They both have that dw cat swim motion, very rough kind of. Kolt explained it better than that before lol. She's 10" now.lol the pic with the jag is kind of funny, like she came out and told the Trachy it was time to come out and play.
