Trimacs

Of course, this is your opinion...but on what criteria do you base it?

Matt

I dunno about Chris.clay11 I have nothing against hybrids, I think some of them are stunning fish I would even like to have an SRT at some point but for the most part they are just not my cup of tea. I just have a thing for wild caught, all natural color and behavior of aquatic life in the closest representation of their natural habitat that I can create. Same reason some people like super deep involved drawn out indy hipster movies while others prefer Michael Bay's latest 90m cookie cutter flick with the latest in brotastic baysplosions.

...or some people like their cars stock...and others like them customized...

I'm just not sure why there's so much desire to segregate those who like their cichlids customized...or at least more customized...as all manner of deformed, "fancy" (but not hybrid) cichlids are perfectly "accepted" ;)

I guess i just like natural beauty over man made. I think the people that made FH are the same ones that pull a fish out of the water and tatoo it. its just not needed to make them look good. And that is just my opinion. I have no need to make something different when there are trimacs, festae, umbee, etc.... out there.

It doesn't need to be overanalyzed. I was simply curious as to why someone "despised" trimacs as being "bland" compared to....what? Later determined the comparison was to a hybrid which would make most any naturally occuring species appear bland, notwithstanding the fact that trimacs are the raw materials for the hybrid. Apples and oranges comparison, that's all. Maybe it was done to illicit such a discussion, but regardless........<yawn>

What's with all the trimac hatin and bashin? The thread didn't ask what was better or what anyone thought in that regard. I have a small female I'm growing out in a 55 currently. Here's a old pic of her, when I get my stuff workin right ill post a newer one. Now she's got more of a green tone and more red on her chest. She also has some amazing color the pictures can't seem to capture in the fins, its like a yellow that fades almost to a red. These fish are really awesome, I wish I could get a male as well.

I bought a trimac at 1.5" from my LFS (labeled as a red dragon FH). It was my first flowerhorn purchase so I just went with it!! As it grew I noticed that it wasn't looking like a flowerhorn and after researching this site I do believe I have a female trimac. Looks very similar to the pick posted by bryan.olsen. She has the same black spot in her dorsal fin...is this indicate that it in fact is a she? Sorry for the thread hijack.

I believe the hijacking occured with all the "FH are better" talk earlier. At least you brought it back totalkin about trimac.
From what I've read that's the indicator. I'm not so sure if the same goes for FH. I would be unsure about mine but my LFS is very reputable and listed it by its scientific name and assured it was a reputable breeder.
