You made a mention of this in a previous post and I'm glad to see that you kind of expanded on and explained it.I fully understand what you meant and it makes sense to me....He did seem to have a list that was handy to the public to see for as long as I can remember though.

I still DON'T understand. I am a newbie to fish keeping (~ 2 years) and TOTALLY freaked out when I saw the price list. Joe and crew devoted time to answer my questions and took care of me as such and "steered me away" from "garbage" fish that they supplied to LFS's that victimized "newbies" like myself. (ie. Blueberry Oscars).

A LFS sold me two of the most DISGUSTING and nearly impossible to cure of internal parasite (white poo) TOTAL GARBAGE BASTARD FRANKENFISH! (Kirin Parrot Cichlid).

What is wrong with this list?

Like I said previously, I would like to make another order from them, but I have not made an order with them in over a year...

I made 3 orders in the span on 2 months, each order being over $400.

The first order was great. The second order, the fish started dying as soon as they hit the water, and the third order, they all came in dead, but 1 fish.

That is why I never bought from them again- and towards the end, he wasn't really the nicest person.

But his Red Tailed Tin Foils are .85.. you can't beat that!

Scream you were a lucky one. there is many obviously did not get the same attention or luck in every order.
The wholesale list should have never been posted for the public while trying to supply your clients with the same fishes & prices. Should have done it differently as i stated before.
I personally would go there to pick most of the fish or avoid all together because all the tanks are on a system & when you see a few bad tanks & dead fish I would avoid that row or everything else. Lots of drugs in the water but still things break down. Plus the system was old & running for a very long time so things are bound to break down.
Just like other jobs there is burn out & I have been down that road more then once when your sick & tired of things like the business & some customers that are p.i.a. etc. so attitude sometimes prevail when things are not so good.

Also your better off going there to see whats left because as I understand there is not much there other then community stuff.

oh also the whole idea of a Local wholesaler that marks up the stock to sell to the lfs was suppose to bring you quality stock because they are doing in the middle & suppose to take care of the fish so the lfs can turn around and sell the fish asap & not have to quarintine them, thats why the lfs pays more instead buying direct & dealinig with stressed, sick fish plus dealing with large numbers of one kind of fishes.
This way changed a long time ago.

well he basically did throw the stores he supplies under the bus. Posting the exact wholesale list that the stores recieve for the public to view & buy from was dumb. How is a store suppose to buy from him & turn around & sell the fishes for a profit when they know what you are paying for it! He tried to say you can mark the fish up to cover the shipping. Ah dah that is not enough to pay the bills. That is typically a little mark up & not enough. Plus if the fish was sick or died (usually) guess who was going to eat it? The shop most of the time. He should have posted a retail list in turn and made some more money on these direct orders but at the same time keep the wholesale end going & send customers to existing accounts if near them. He basically threw himself & his business along with others in the business under the bus. You reap what you sow..
We will all most likely will pay the price down the road in the hobby because of greed or bad business practices.

From my understanding, customers from Ohio could not buy from him because the stores that he supplied to were too close. Fish stores could buy from TFD but regular customers could not in Ohio.

Any how, I usually do not pay much attention to the competition comments on the negative things that they have to say about other stores. No offense.

In all fairness I thought the same thing too. You have to click "Today's Specials" to see that message. I would only click the specials section if they had something I wanted. Normally if someone is closing shop they would post it on the main part of their homepage so more people are aware right of the bat and get a sence of urgency.

they really should fix that

Sucks to hear but best of luck to joe and pete.

Never been to Ohio (Wickliffe) myself before, but from after watching that vid on youtube... I'm guessing it gets pretty hot over there? :)

Nice youtube vid but any idea why the clip would stop and freeze for a few seconds every few seconds?.....Annoying.
