trout tank

I was thinking about some trout until I read this, I dont want to get a chiller. What about Muskie? would I need a chiller for them too?

Im looking for nice game fish to keep other than Bass, but if a nice bass is the only way to go then Bass it is.

It depends on where you kept them.....musky need cool water (not as cold as trout but still cool) and would need a very large tank, since they get 5ft long and can grow to 6ft long. Chain Pickeral max out between 4-5ft long and would be easier to keep IMHO if you have a large tank.

i have yet to see a 72" musky. 4'(48") is more a average wild "top end" with some cresting the 60" line. i would recomend tiger muskie to the op as they tend to stay smaller though 50"+ fish are found. they can also thrive in warmer water.

here is a 47" example of how beastly they get and how you should look at there tank footprint. they need lots of room.

toughest thing is the water chiller you will need, thats what stopped me when i realized that would set me back a grand

you can get them cheapper if you know were to look. lobster tanks from resterantes are a great buy. you can make them for less, but they are iffy.

Muskellunge closely resemble other Esocids such as the northern pike and American pickerel in both appearance and behavior. Like other pikes, the body plan is typical of ambush predators with an elongate body, flat head and dorsal, pelvic and anal fins set far back on the body. Muskellunge attain lengths of 60–150 cm (2.0–4.9 ft) and weights of over 30 kg (66 lb), though some have reached up to 7ft (213.36 cm) long[1] and 100lb (45.5 kg)[2 , Esox masquinongy Mitchill, 1824

Sbuse, I was going by Max sizes that I had found on the internet (Fishbase and Wikipedia) so they will not try to JDM it or put it into too small of a tank or pond; I totally agree with the rest of your post and after doing some research on electroshocking by the Mo. Dnr found that the max size of electroshocked fish they had found were around 50inches, but were usually around 25-40 inches. Your absolutely right its a big fish and needs a big footprint (and Im sure lots of food). Thanks Joe.

the IGFA shows that the largest proven fish was infact 74". the world record hook and line was 65". they did list some questionable fish listed at 96". since the mid 1800's there hasn't been anything over 66" that was proven. over all any fish over 80lbs is on the questionable list. not disagreeing, but just some info to back what we are saying.

i think we will see some more of the monsters soon around here and i have a nessy i am gunning for. i have personally seen on a few different public lakes (witch there names can't be disclosed to to possible deaths) that were 54" taped and i have seen some that were 100% over 60" one was 10" from tip of snout to its eyes. my lure rested on it cause i was dumbfounded by the massive fish i was looking at 1 foot away from me. that is my 47" muskie in the pic and i have had a 53" lake sturgeon before so i am not over judging the fishes lenght. now i just have to catch it so you guys can see it as i know were it lives:naughty:.

also for the picture. i am 6'5" and pushing 300lbs

"one was 10" from tip of snout to its eyes" 10 ft from tip to eyes!!! Thats almost big enough to be a Missouri Musky! J/K, sounds like youve got the Musky bug,I tried to go Musky fishing once ......and I finally gave up (I tried catching one at one of the best Musky fishing lakes in Mo on a pole I bought just for the occasion, and didnt even get one Muskey after 3 daysa of trying!). I believe you on the monster...I recently lost a abu garcia med heavy pole (broke in two places) that had 20lb line running through it to a monster Carp on the James river here in Mo.....I saw the shape of the fish with my own two eyes, and it must of been 4ft long. Sooner or later I will get him.....he can swim, but he cant hide!

my first muskie was a 40" fish that kinda got me into them as i love pike fishing. that nessy got me hooked. i have seen 3 other fish in the same lake that rivel it in size. they try to take some bass off our stringers when we are wading. it actually took me from may to aug. fishing almost stright muskies 1-2 days a week, to get that 47". i had countless follows and hooked up then lost one in the 44" range. don't give up as it will take some time to get one. that 47" fish was an awsome day. i started out at a trout lake and got my trout immatator(that i was using for tiger muskies) attack by a 10lbs+ lake trout. then proceeded to catch my first tiger muskie (a 24" fish). then at noon we went to another lake and after waiting in line at the boat landing for 1hr with no movment we oppted to go to the other lake. got out on the lake at 2:40pm had the 47" ski released by 3:10pm. at 3:30 had another muskie of equal size follow me in on the same flat. 90f+ out jetskis/tubbers 100yrds away. a fun day. you never know what cast will get one, but it will happen if you put the time in.

i made some dc10's for this season with some new colors to try. i have shot at some MONSTER carp while bow fishing. 4'+ swimming in 1.5ft of water with there bellies dragging and their backs exposed! one those i go for a head shot and i ALWAYS miss just infront of their noses, if not take a chunk of nose out. they shot a 86lb carp out of the same lake i got the 47" muskie.

I just dont have the patience for Musky.......the guy I went with got 2 Musky in 3 days, and he knows what hes doing; I honestly dont have the patience for Musky. I am hooked on catching carp, and Im trying different methods besides the old corn flakes and strawberry soda thing. I have caught several carp in between 9 and 20lbs, but nothing over.......yet.
