Here are some Carpintis "Escondido species", I sold them all a year ago...they look almost Electric. You will notice that the pearls are big and blotchy as opposed to small dot pearls.

For sure dude...dont listen to the hybrid comments. the facial structure and everything else, pearls, the tail dot, the body mark. And its also got a black mark on the dorsal with makes it at least 75% female.

I just saw a youtube video of a pair that looks like their about to spawn. The interesting thing that stood out was the black mark on the Dorsal fin on the male. Those this mean you can not take into account the black mark on the dorsal fin as a method of sexing a Texas cichlid?

Here is the video link.

Exactly, thats what Cavamart told me, that the black dorsal for Texas are not good indicators as it is for Flowerhorns. And even for FHs its a 80%-90% chance only of it being female. In nature nothing is 100%

Very interesting. I have labeled my 4.5" Carpintis a female, simply because it has a black blotch on the dorsal. I guess I will have to wait and see.

Looks like a Texas to me. I just moved from Texas. When I was there I took a fishing trip to a town named Llano,Tx where the Llano river runs through the town.It was more like a large creek. Anyway I read on a blog that there were Texas cichlids there.Right in town the little river runs under a street.I parked there and caught several wild Texas cyano's. Beautiful fish huge pearls.I took home an 8 inch female that was the meanest fish I have ever owned.Anyway nice fish!
