trying to breed convicts for live food lol

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
remind you these cons that are being bred in the p section are for food lol.... Not to house permanently!

If you like cons of cichlids that's great, personally I could never stand them!

so because the fry are being used for feed makes it acceptable to house the parents in less than acceptable conditions? are puppy mills ok in your opinion because their purpose is to produce puppies? Those 100 pound rotties are ok in the 40" crate because their true purpose is only to produce puppies, not to be pets huh? It isn't right. Period. Sorry to draw the argument out. LOL. As you can see, I disagree.

I have tried to make this argument so many times..:( it never seems to work.....its ok to watch a fish beat its mate to death every few weeks in a tank that is much to small...but its ok, they are "just feeders"

how some people say its "just a fish"

In my opinion it gets down to the fish i am feeding...i want the healthiest food possible for my fish,..so breeding feeders in bad conditions does not in my opinion produces the healthy food I am looking for.

my cons are large and healthy well taken care of in a 20l, and i use the fry at the wiggler stage as feeders. When i rebuild my 20l rack in to a 29 rack the cons will be moved to the larger tank.

I have to agree with saying its not just a fish... I have 2 small pairs in a 37 rite now but just picked up a drilled 120 tall for 4 convicts and I'm hoping that will be enough room with a visual divider like a chunk of driftwood. The sump tank will be a 75 sectioned off for the growouts.. it will look kind funny for a while till the parents get some size on them.

Your barking to the wrong guy, I don't keep cichla and I agree every fish deserves space.... I keep a single 2.5" black Piranha in a 90 gal.

I only fed my piranhas pellets and frozen fish fillets, I hate feeding live:

Maybe Piranha keepers and cichla keepers are different, and where did the puppy mill argument come from lol? I originally came here and said everyone has their own opinion. It's Xmas man chill out!

Nah no barking from me... To each their own. I'm just agreeing with a few statements. I view keeping 2 cons in a ten gallon is like living in a 12 foot camper with your significant other, newlyweds would love to camp aweek together even if it rains, but for the long haul not for me... That being said, I could care less what others do, as long as no ones asking me personally for advice.
Yeah its Xmas and I'm feeling bloated now...

Not barking at all. My apologies if you took it that way. I just don't agree with the whole thought process behind it.

I agree man but its really just a matter of opinion, people seem to get more upset over an aro in a 125 then a con in a 10, just depends on what types of fish your passionate for, some people keep goldfish, some keep 3k$ rays but both are pets!

I think its good that you stick up for them, Atleast you get the word out there they need adequate space and set an example!

holy put your piss sticks away boys !!! yes once they breed everyone is getting removed except the female to tend to the fry... as i do know in a 10g there isnt room for the female to get away... im not a total idiot.... all i simply asked was which is F and what was M... on a side note i still dont have any eggs yet ugh lol, maybe i'll take the two smaller ones out and leave the two big ones in there for awhile and see what happens...

Thats really weird that your Cons still havent produced...mine will breed in a well stocked tank, an emty tank, hell they would prob go at it in the kitchen sink lol...

I would for sure take out all but one female(the largest is your best bet but not required) and just leave them be for about a week or so and let them get good and settled and soon you will wish you hadnt started breeding them because you will have more than your fish will eat lol

What temp do you have the water? Mine prefer as close to 80 as you can get.
