Trying to do it right..?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
he would probably love my fire eels they are both hand fed. Whenever someone comes over I offer to let them feed them worms, you would be surprised at how many people jump at the chance

My African knifefish tend to grab peoples attention. I have a group of 4 and the odd shape and finnage makes them an interesting showpiece :D

(I also keep them with polys)

Love the pics. It is so nice to see someone keeping angelfish with bichirs. I've always had a predilection for koi angels, but have been too afraid to keep them. How do they get along with the bichirs? Is the soap opera dynamic a regular thing?

Polys definitely are addicting. Similar to you, I have a 55g and have smaller upper jaws in it. In the long run, the 90 gallon will be so much easier to maintain. Less water changes! Woo!

The trio of angels seems to mostly not care what the bichir does. Merlin and Freya like to come down and eat Don's pellets. They get all ruffled up if he's swimming around their egg laying sites and will posture/rush at him. Doesn't seem to bother him, though! As for the soap opera dynamic, I don't know if it's because of their number, gender balance, or what. It's my first time keeping angels and they've been surprising me a lot! What's been holding you back from getting some?

lol, That's the five year old in everyone coming out. "It eats WORMS?? Cool!"

@Hendre, I've always loved knifefish!! I think they are beautiful, even if a bit creepy as adults. Of course, most full sized monster fish look really bulky in comparison to their young selves...

I'm not too sure to be honest. Mine range from 12-17cm, biggest I've ever seen is 24ish cm at london zoo. They seem to grow very slowly with maybe 2cm in 1.5 years although I've only kicked up food recently.

I have 4 in my tank, they're quite busy! :D

it is always fun to watch their face when Pompeii my big guy comes out of his tube and they realize how big he is along with how fast he snatches the worms from your hand.

Yeah african knives definitely have a good personality however of the 3 types of knives I've had 2 have been jerks(carpo and afer) with the afer earning the name jacka$$
