I am in Central California and where I live there are levees and they are connected to San Francisco Bay. My dad is worried about our area flooding. The area in town I live is below sea level. I am worried about my mom because she works in the Bay Area Hope nothing really happens.
Im lucky to be in singapore. My country is surrounded totally by other neighbouring countries like malaysia and indonesia, which acts as a shield against any incoming waves.
Unfortunately, other countries ain't that lucky. Hope MFK members of affected areas are safe and sound.
Nothing to be worried about in CA. We will just get some waves a little bigger than normal. Nothing like Japan where it will come inland and flood everything.
What time is it suppose to hit...don't you have to evacuate.. be safe... i am so sad for everyone in japan going through this tragic natural disaster...
Lots of people were evacuated in the early morning hours. There were a lot of cars parked along the road when I went to work--apparently moving to "higher ground".

From what I've seen of your home I'm sure you're plenty far from the coast, aren't you?
It has already hit along the northern Oregon coast. It was not anything you would notice at all. They are saying the waves will be larger further south, hopefully it fizzles out down in your parts as well!
We're absolutely in a safe area. When I mentioned "impacted", I was referring to another aspect of the tsunami warning. Schools were closed today, and about 3/4s of our staff did not show up to work, either because they had child care problems, or there were road closures that did not allow them to drive to work. The low lying part of Crescent City (the part that was destroyed in the 1964 tsunami) was evacuated, and is still blocked off. Can't get to the bank or the post office...in fact the postal workers who managed to get to work were sent home as the post office is in the tsunami zone. There is major damage to our harbor with quite a few boats sunk or destroyed. The harbor in Brookings, OR is also badly damaged.
The big tsunami that hit Crescent City after the big Alaska earthquake is always on people's minds around here. It's something that has to be taken seriously.

With minimal staff, and everyone at work on emergency standby notice, it was a minimum day for me...so I was definitely impacted by the tsunami warning. I was not unhappy to start my weekend a little earlier than usual
I need to clarify that the damage done to the harbors is a result of all the tidal surges we are having, not to a "tsunami". With all the aftershocks happening in Japan, my area could have tidal surges for a long time. The water is pulling back quite a ways, and areas of the ocean floor are visible that are usually submerged. This tidal action is very destructive. A lot of boats can be seen just a little ways out from the harbor. With all the damage to our harbor, they may not be able to come back in our habor. The next closest harbor is 80 road miles away. This whole thing is dominating everything in our little town right now. There is only one market we can get to, as the rest are in the evacuated area. So it is a big deal for our little town.
