Ok man listen up Your Turtle needs to be checked out immediately. If you can't afford it, contact your local ASPCA sometimes they will test animals for free. Secondly If you have collected any other animals from the Mercury Water and are keeping them you need to get rid of them and the water in your tank. I can tell you first hand what Mercury can do to someone. My mother was exposed to mercury while she was pregnant with me. I was born without a Nose bone, with treachestanosis and broncialstanosis meaning that my bronchial tubes and my treachea are the size of a toddlers, also 3 of my 6 lobes in my lungs never formed properly and I only have about 40% of the lung capacity I should. sight and hearing problems, and an overall lack of smell. So let me tell you that extended exposure to MERCURY WILL EFFECT YOUR LIFE IN UNIMAGNIABLE WAYS AND CAN CAUSE UNBELIEVABLE PAIN NOT ONLY TO YOURSELF BUT TO YOUR FUTURE CHILDREN. SO GET THE TURTLE CHECKED AND IF HE TESTS POSITIVE GET YOURSELF CHECKED. NOT NEXT MONTH NOT IN A FEW WEEKS NOT NEXT WEEK. YOU NEED TO GET THAT TURTLE CHECKED TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:iagree: get that thing tested pronto. I'm sure it will be ok if it has lived this long, but you may be in for some rough times if you keep it and are in close contact with it for too long.

And no..."yeah but they said" or "there's no vets right here" just get it checked out.

as i am saying over and over..
THERE ARE NO ****ING HERP VETS OR ANY OTHER VET THAT WILL DO MERCURY TESTING FOR TURTLES.
GOD DAMN..DON'T YOU PEOPLE READ THE PREVIOUS POSTS????

and they don't have any ASPCA's in San Jose, CA this ain't new york or animal planet.

Ok kid your barking up the wrong tree. You seem to be either blind or ignorant, so let me explain. EXCUSES WILL NOT STOP MERCURY POISONING. So the longer you BS about taking care of your situation the higher risk you place on yourself, and your family. Mercury contaminated anything including the water your fish and turtle are in is technically A HAZMAT situation, meaning that you could call the fire department and see if they could suggest something. You keep talking about having your turtle registered so I would say to either contact whatever agency you did that through, or contact the Department of Agriculture and or the United States Wildlife Service. I guarantee there will be someone from one of those departments in your state and most likely local area. I may sound like a jerk, but if someone had been a jerk to my mom I may have had a much easier life.

oh you're saying i'm the one barking?

did i ever BS about saying i'm taking care of this situation? no, i havn't done anything so far

the department of fish & game CA only has my turtle's name on their native species list so i can keep him legally. i am sure they are not going to come over to do any mercury testings.
if you're gonna be that pissed off with me, why don't you look up some herp vets in my area? if you find one, i would be more than happy to visit them.

and unless my family members are swimming in the tank or drinking from it, there would be no danger to them.. maybe for me since my hand is always in the tank. but i am sure that any mercury that was stuck to the outside of Cola is already gone.

and if i call the fire department over a turtle, they would slap me.

Your right Im not going to look up Vets for you. The fact is its people like you that make sure the Darwin Awards creators get a new book each year. Congrats go take a swim in your tank. Cheers

Dude how many turtle threads are you gonna make?... *sigh*

This thread's been reduced to a street fight. Closed

And, I guess it's never been considered that there's a Sea World, Monterey Aquarium, Scripp's Institute of Oceanography, and Pacific Science Center reasonably close to San Jose. Or, that the larger metropolitan ASPCAs are in San Fran, Sacramento, and LA (including many of the largest veterinary clinics, hospitals, and research labs in the country). No resources, my itchy butt!!
