TV upgrade: LCD or LED?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This isn't true man.... 1080p is the highest pixelation you can achieve, it is said led produces better contrast and even has a much better viewing radius, hence why lcd is the cheapest, plasma is in the middle and led is the most expensive. I have both lcd and led and my pops has a plasma, imo the colors led achieves is better, not by much tho. Plasma were the best but technology progresses at an alarming rate.

F1 I love ya brother but you are in the ignorant majority on this one. Do some research and spend some quality time researching and LOOKING at plasma vs super-led-supertron-flavorofthemonth-reallylooksbetterthistime-lcd that is being pushed this time of the year.

The profit margin on lcd is WAY higher even when the price is much lower on any lcd tech. But on plasma white is WHITE and black is the same as of the tv is off. There is no comparison between lcd and plasma contrast, its plasma hands down. But thats not what makes plasma so good, the tech has a true 600hz naturally whereas lcd is 60hz. When they say "120hz!!" They have a computer graphics card that creates an intermediate fram interpolated from the native two frames and thus "stepping up" to 120hz. But then they say "240hz" and you guessed it, another fake frame inserted every other frame which makes it look like a cartoon and its still blurry on fast motion. If you watch sports or action movies there is no substitute for plasma except the previously mentioned drawbacks.

I get my info from a friend who installs large scale entertainment systems for a living, I'm talking football stadiums, basketball arenas and security rooms. Plasma still is king

This thread is proof that clever marketing works :duh:

LED is better than LCD? LED = LCD! The display technology is the same. As F1 said, it's the backlighting. and LED/LCD obviously uses LEDs. A traditional LCD uses fluorescent tubes.

And obviously an LED-backlit LCD tv is better than a fluorescent backlit LCD tv. But don't be an ignorant consumer. You're still buying an LCD tv.

^ that's why you'll find cheaper fluorescent tube lit LCDs then the clever flavor of the month hit marketing LED backlit LCDs. it's just an improvement on technology as traditional florescent tube lit tvs are being phased out

Ps, if you're upgrading you should go ahead and get the smart tvs.

Actually 4 k displays are available. Go to gizmodo.com and search for 4k displays. It's the content thats lacking....which is there but mostly demo stuff only.

Thank you and lol.

On a side not major its almost impossible for 1080 pixels to achieve anything over 240hz, hence why 720p plasmas/lcd are 400+Hz. I'm not talking super 5-10k tv, I'm talking about the avg consumer, I picked up a 40" slim Eco led 1080p 120hz and I couldn't be happier, blows away my 39" 1080p 120hz lcd, it just has more contrast, again I don't actually own a plasma hdtv but current market research says plasma is in the middle of the group, lcd->plasma->led

As long as its 1080p with 120hz-240hz I could care a less if its powered by nuclear fallout.

Some people like the way the lcds look or dont notice the differences. but like anything you have to own one to understand what the reviewers mean. Its not as big as like a jump from VHS tapes to dvd, but the principle is similar, when you get used to the "better" technology, you immediately see the problems in the rival technology. Thats what i was saying about how even though my inlaws just bought a larger/newer tv than mine, I have a hard time watching theirs. The viewing angles on lcds are terrible still and it just looks lousy. I'm spoiled on plasma. :)
