TV upgrade: LCD or LED?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks all for sharing your knowledge. I learned a lot on this thread. We are on a budget . We checked the Sharp and Samsung displays, what a difference! But we couldn't afford it so we settled for a 55" LG LED. Pics coming when I'm done setting it up. Nice setup guys.

Yeah buddy you won't be disappointed! PICS WHEN SETUP!

I'm sure you'll really enjoy that TV. I still like plasma the best, but my parents just bought a Samsung 60" LED and it's pretty dang nice. It's supposed to have good sound, but it sucks. I still need to convince them to buy a stereo system. I encouraged them to go LED instead of plasma because the room is very well lit.

Wow 60" that's massive!

No point in a top notch tv with out top notch sound---> dolby digital II 5.1, I take my sound more serious then my tv.

Nice tv man, love the classic thin led profile!

Hand down? You do realize their both 1080p right? These tvs are very closely matched with performance. And I have 0 ghosting even when I play non hd movies.

I do realize that as i used to sell those tvs!
The elite is a full back lit!! As in there is 1000s of leds on that to get you truer picture... While Samsung and sony and all other manufactures use only edge lit on there leds which usually leads to your led to have ghosting appear.. Go to a store and ask them to put a 55es8000
Next to a 55 or 60vt50 and it will get crushed.. Which is the same for every led!!
It depends on what he wants and needs so he can get the best tv.... But go ahead tell him to waste his money on an led it isn't mine..

their living room isn't huge, but the TV is over the fire place (gas, not wood burning), so it doesn't really look that big. The 42 they had before was too small. My friend has a 70" DLP in a room about the same size and I love it. Of course, I don't mind sitting in the front row of movie theaters, so take that with a grain of salt.

But go ahead tell him to waste his money on an led it isn't mine..

Implying that an average-joe consumer is wasting his money on an edge-lit LED/LCD unless he spends $8k on a fully back-lit LED/LCD is just plain stupid. I've seen plenty of current Samsung LED/LCDs and the picture quality is fantastic. The average household will be more than satisfied. And they don't need to prove they have more money than sense by spending $8k on a tv :screwy:

That is why i said to get a Plasma... Best bang for the buck.. All i was saying that there is no and i mean no led out there with true colors like a plasma.
I was saying if you want the same quality as a plasma you would have to spend 8000 on a led to get the quality as a plasma.... Did you read all of my posts thourghly... Or just saw what you wanted to see and pointed it out? That is just my best advice
You can get a plasma that is $1500 to $2000
Which will be better then a $3000 led
Is that better explanation?

I did see your posts. And I think it's silly to say LED/LCDs are a waste of money. They each have their pros and cons. And once you buy it won't matter what you get as long as your happy with it. Unless of course you have multiple TVs set up side-by-side to compare.

I have one of those 65" leds and it is the best thing I've ever seen. The quality is great. Im gonna make my dad get me one of those 80" sharp leds.

True... All that matters is the consumer... But i was voicing my opinion and many.others that sell tvs. They arent a waste obviously because anything will be better then you used to have.... But it doesn't matter like i said. Everyone will choose what they want i.am just helping them find the best and if you are against that i am sorry.
But im.trying to HELP them save money.. If they choose to
