This is what it comes down to. Yap yap dogs make up a tremendous majority of dog bites, but since they're so small most of the bites go unreported because they don't cause grievous damage. A full blown mauling from a Yorkie will do less damage than a playful nip from my GSDs.

This is the kind of thing that happens when idiots have children and animals. They can't take care of either properly and it is the kids/animals that suffer in the end.
