  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I love the design of the "tear drop", they are showing some amazing red on the face. It would seem that they are still pretty shy from the pics, are they moving around quite a bit? I guess they are pretty bottom oriented, not so much open water fish?

Look great,

Ray

Thanks Ray.
Yes, I too love the tear-drop-shaped marking. Quite unique. Shy is not the word, LOL......yes, very shy indeed. They are structure-oriented. I have floating hollow resin logs in there and they will lay in them as well as along the lines of the driftwood. When I approach, however, they dart into hiding.....and the best places are currently on the bottom. When I am across the room, they come out and cruise all around the tank and lip lock, chase, and tag each other often. Quite the diggers, too. Very active except when they think I am coming to eat them.
Glad you like them, too!

Oh good. As of tonight they are now accepting pellets. Live food as a treat now, thank God.

SUPER UBER BIG CONGRATS!! That is a major hurdle, glad you jumped it without too much trouble!!!

Now, from now on every post you make, I think you should accompany it with a picture!

Thanks Jer. I tried to get a new photo for you tonight, but the alpha female was too busy chasing everyone else around like torpedoes! They are really fast....like the mackerel of the pike cichlid world.

Threw in some more pellets and a handful of live earthworms....been giving them live earthworms for a week or two now. The alpha female's head is turning cherry red, and the beta female is getting kicked out of the log she was in so the big girl can have more room.

Problem is, the big girl (alpha) is the biggest one I have. The two males, and the other two females, are all a whole tail length smaller and much thinner.

I think I could pair the other four up, but then I would have a single giant female all to her lonesome. So, I have to resort to PLAN B :D

To be continued.....hehehehe........

Updates?

I picked-up one of my own about a week ago, still on minnows and curious if you have any tricks on how you got them on other foods?

I have to say...this is one intriguing fish!!

Well, a little update.......

I am quite ashamed to report that my multis are bloating up and dieing off one by one. I have lost all my big females and now a big male. There seems to be nothing that I can do to stop it. I had 9 of them, now down to 4.

..........quite frustrating to say the very least. Maybe I jumped a bit too far before I looked. They are freshly collected wild fish, but man I thought I was better than this.
