Oh, they're out of the 3D background long enough for some nice pictures!

Looking good bro. You want to know what I would try to get them to spawn? Drop the ph like you've been doing, super clean water, lots of (clean) live food, and frequent slightly colder water changes.

I would guess that would eventually trigger something. It will at least make your corys go nuts. :D

Thanks Jeff! Since I added the new LED's, they don't hide at all. What your suggesting is nothing new to me. Those are the tricks I have used for most of my SA's. With these guys though I strongly advise against the temp swings. They stress really bad with even the smallest change. Kind of frustrating TBH, the only SA eartheater I have kept with that issue.. The cories have been going nuts spawning but they are the not the ones I want to breed (besides I havent been dosing thier eggs so I love them). The tough part with these guys are they are both white and black water species which is pretty uncommon, especially with Satanoperca. If I really want the to spawn I need to drop them off at your place for the weekend. You lucky dog you have such blessed water... :( I have to work my butt off to even try to get close to your tap.

Why are these guys going to be extinct in the wild soon?

Also, I have the quickrete all purpose in my 90, I just mixed it with the play sand and works fine for me. I'm probably not as picky as you though.

I could (and probably am wrong) but I recall reading an artical about a hydro-electric dam being build that would seriously affect this species in an adverse way. I'll see if I can drum up the aticle and post it for you. It was a good read.

yeah, definitely some healthy looking mapritiensis you got there, good luck with them.

At the moment I keep almost every existing Satanoperca species (except for S. lilith), but especially S. acuticeps seems very hard to breed and reacts very sensitive to changing water parametres.

Seriously???? If you are keep all but S. lilith your my new hero! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post some pics, even bad ones. Satanperca is my favorite genus and I would love to see pics from you my friend!!!

Keep after Ken, he will bring them in again I'm sure. How could you not they are beautiful.. There is an African species (not sure which one) that has huge lips like that. I always flock to them at the LFS. The wife loves them too.

he said they won't be for sale anytime soon, at least not until they get some decent numbers going.

That's where you come in ;)

Hmmmm... Well I have bred a few geo species but never gymno's, I like a good challenge too. ;) I'll add these guys into the eartheater group I created and see what I can do. Check it out under my profile if you haven't yet. Some good info.

I might take them for a while after the 90 is done and the CAs are moved to the 125. I don't know, I'd be really nervous they'd die or something. Can't handle the pressure! :D

I don't even know exactly what my ph will go down to, it immediately goes to 6.0 with the API liquid tests on tanks I don't use crushed coral in. Would be interesting to actually know...

Looks good JK. I really enjoy viewing your collection.
