Sonnen's jiu jitsu is still suspect so he'd better hope his stand up game holds up against Silva's Chute-Boxe style.
We all recall what happened to Forest who is styled much like Sonnen.
In fish terms I would say he has the fighting chance of say a danio in a tank with juvenile oscar......

?? They fight totally different.

Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen - I believe in Chael Sonnen. Ok, I think that Chael has what it takes to beat Silva. My main problem is that I can't see him taking Silva down and holding him for 5 full rounds, so if he's going to win, I think he has to score a TKO by G & P, and likely before the 3rd round. If it goes farther, he's going to have a tough time getting the takedown, and Silva will probably knock him out. And then dance on his grave.

Jon Fitch vs Thiago Alves - I'm going to take Fitch by decision, because thats what he does, but Alves is going to try and end this early, and Fitch better keep his distance.

Clay Guida vs Rafeal Dos Anjos - Dos Anjos. I'm not really sure how good Guida is anymore, I know he'll be active, but if he isn't productive, Dos Anjos will make him tap.

Matt Hughes vs Ricardo Almeida - I got Almeida, and likely by decision. I think Ricardo could sub him, but I don't think Hughes will let him, so I think Ricardo will win in a decision.

Roy Nelson vs Junior Dos Santos - Some guys on this board, and another, have started to make me rethink some things about Roy, but in this fight, I'm going with my gut (pun intended) and picking Dos Santos by a mile. I think JDS will KO Roy, and if by chance Roy escapes and it goes to the ground, he will get pounded out. I feel pretty good saying that Dos Santos is in the top 3 in the heavyweight division.

UFC 117 Silva vs Sonnen - Saturday August 7 - Fight Card

Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen
26-4-0 Record 26-10-1
6' 2" Height 6' 1"
185lbs (84kg)Weight 185lbs (84kg)

I got Silva via tko or sub by 3rd rd. Chael has talked so much trash that he deserves a beating. He's a politician so it's understandable they he's trying to sell the fight, but man, all this stuff he is saying seems so unnatural and scripted. He says Rich ducked him for 2 years and Anderson ducked him for 4 years,.......... nobody ducked you when you are a B level can. He just recently, literally, in his last 2 fights showed that he is a contender for the title. It's like Alan Belcher calling out Anderson, just because a non contender calls out the champ don't mean the champ is ducking him. of course they aint fighting, you're not considered or earned the right yet.

I admit, some things anderson has done in the ring, and things he's said in the past got me scratching my head, but make no mistake, he is the 185 king, not just in the UFC, but in the world. He's rightfully sitting and enjoying the view at the very top seat of the pyramid, at the top of the food chain. Chael will eat his words. Its funny to me that the more trash he talks the more embarrassing it will be to lose.

I admit though, he has the best chance out of everyone right now in that division to take the belt. His wrestling, relentlessness, cardio, dirty boxing is scary the way he beat Okami and Nate. I don't think he'd stop anderson, but he has the cardio to control anderson for 5 rounds and maybe even beat him up a little. but his greatest task will be not getting ko'd or subbed in the process

John Fitch vs Thiago Alves
Rooting for Thiago, but I think Fitch's style is superior. I think the wrestling and cardio is what makes the difference here. If it was strictly stand up I give the edge to Thiago, but it isn't. I say Fitch via UD. I feel bad for Fitch though, he's just one of those guys that isn't considered exciting and no one wants to see him rematch gsp the way their last fight went

Clay Guida vs Rafael Dos Angos
If Dos Anjos can't sub clay, I give this one to Clay via UD.

Matt Hughes vs Ricardo Almeida
this fight really doesn't do much for me, I'm not a fan of either guy. I say Hughes by decision

Roy Nelson vs Junior Dos Santos
I like roy man, alot of people don't, but i do. He's a fat dude that's got great foot work for a fat guy and can put anybody to sleep if he lands. He's funny, and is a monster if he gets you in the crucifix. But I think JDS has the edge. I don't know if he can ko Roy, but if he doesn't get caught, i give him the decision. I'd love to see Junior fight Cain, Brock or Carwin. Dana already said this winner gets the next title shot though. the loser of this fight can fight the loser of Brock/Cain or Carwin.

Dustin Hazelett vs Rick Story
I like Hazelett, rooting for him

Forrest and Sonnen dont' have similar styles at all

I haven't seen Sonnen fight but he's been talking a lot of smack.

Does he have what it takes to beat Silva?

I think he does, but the question is, can he avoid a sub or getting ko'd while trying to catch anderson to execute his game?

I wonder who?

Sonnen will TKO Silva, Round 5. Stoppage due to unanswered strikes.
Fitch will UD Alves.
Guida will UD Dos Anjos.
Ricardo RNC over Hughes - Rnd 2.
Nelson TKO Rnd 1 over Dos Santos. BellyCrucifix
Hazelett via crazy sub Rnd 1.
Saunders and Hallman will be a barn burner...
The rest I don't really mind who wins so I don't pick.

all this is possible. the most unlikely one though is Sonnen via tko. did you know that in all his UFC wins he's never stopped anybody? it's so unlikely that he will do that to the champ

I'd be willing to do an av and sig bet on the main event. anyone?

I'm up for it, but I think I have another one coming up with someone, on Brock/Cain.

I make crazy picks all the time... :grinno:

Typically I make picks based on what I want to happen mixed with what I think will happen, typically it ends up mostly being what I want to happen.

Sonnen isn't a known finisher but I can see him surprising everyone in this fight.
