ugh... what to put in an odd shape 400g tank?

The only single species I can think of that would use this tank well and not be cramped up when full grown is a MBU puffer. Although if you are rich this tank would have the potential to be the biggest dicus set-up on MFK. Here is a example of the price for the live stock, say you went with 40 discus and got adult size and a good deal. Then you would have 40 discus at about 30 bucks a peice cause you are buying so many. That would be 1200 bucks just on the main fish. Then get 50-60 small tetra's for around 1.50 each. A couple of nice pleco's for 40-50 bucks at a good size for noncommon. Yea big tanks cost big money. I would go with the MBU all day.
red belly prianhas would go good in this tank. they are a schooling fish, and they will live top to bottom with fish moving into areas according to their standing in the school.
I love the discus idea from hybridtheory. I think that would be one of the most colorful and beautiful tanks ever.
well let me tell you that a 400g glass tank with 1" thick front glass is NOT light lol. its a beast that cannot be picked up, only rolled around and thats with 6 people.

I vote for Giant Gourami and or Pacu.
(or Tilapia till they are big enough to broil.Get some pix of this tank up quick!!!

unfortunately the only decent pic i have is this one, its hard to get a good pic of such a huge tank when its shoved into the garage with the rest of my crap from our recent move.
all i know is something monster will go in here, whether it a shoal of P's, koi, or whatever. a single pacu with some dithers would be cool too.
