I find the former drivel and this drives your mind off to dust rather than the latter. This is just my opinion.

rebel! i had the same problems my parents are perfectionists, i get b's and all's they say is "only if those were a's".

return the clothes get the cash and buy what you want

One thing that might honestly work, hon, is telling them that you want to persue a career in biology, and having water-bound creatures to study at home will greatly increase your knowledge.

You never know, you might be able to write all kinds of papers and do projects with/on your tank inhabitants.

I would think that if they are really into you doing well in school, try to use that to your bargaining advantage.

All fish have Latin / Scientific names, and learning these will help further your foreign language skills. You learn the root of a word, the root of a type of fish, and you can figure out a lot of its base needs.

I would really just try to wrap it around school.

When my parents didn't want me to get a snake I acted like I had given in. One day while they were out I moved a terrarium into my room and had it sitting out, empty. I never said anything about it and they ignored it. One day they come home and BOOM!! -- there's a snake in there with all the bells and whistles of reptile care. They were shocked. They knew telling me to get rid of it was not an option (being a girl comes with that innate ability to cry when occasions call for it; it's sweet), so they had to deal and I had my snake.

I don't know if something like that would be possible.... but I have always been a strong believer in the fact that they can't reprimand you for having something if they don't know you have it =D

Good luck, hon!!! Let us know how it goes, yeah??

Ask them again! "________ , it's obvious you guys are avoiding the issue! I've asked repeatedly for permission for a 55 gallon aquarium to be purchased with MY OWN $$, and you guys won't give me an answer why I can't have one! Why can't I have one? My grades are DEFINITELY NOT the issue! Can I have a clear cut answer for a clear cut question?!!!!"

Wait a few yrs, when you are 18 move out to your own appt. and get yourself a nice 75 gal tank.

What you have here is parents who are doing everything but what they want to do, which is say "no".

:nilly:
I had a dad like that... he drove me nuts.
LOL

3 yrs to go, that gives you lots of planing time.

Follow this advice. In no time you will be a Nyquil Junkie.

Or you could do your best and try and get on your parent's good graces, and if this doesn't work, plan for your future.

I agree with the above, try to be happy with the 15 and MFK. Like it or not parents pay and are in charge. This also teaches you that you can't always have everything in life as soon as you would like to, which can help you become a more responsible appreciative person, something many people today are not. Im an Adult and several times have not been able to keep large tanks in my own place for one reason or another(too small, bills, responsibilities, ect. Focus on school, may not be what you want to hear but you seem smart going by your grades, just think when you are finally on your own with a good education/job what kind of dream monster tank you can have! Who knows, they may change thier minds down the line? Just focus on priorities first fish second. JMO

Do good in school and your parents can't say anything.
Have you ever had your own pets. They could be worried about you getting into something and it becoming their responsibilty when you leave. Can't pack a 55 in a suitcase for college. If I were you (I know it's MFK treason) get a nano tank with your own money. Look up different nano forums and go crazy.
Personally, I started off small (20l) and then went big (55/75)and then went bigger (125/150) and then crazy (3'x8'x8' above ground pond) but I found that I like the simplicity of these nano setups (especially if you're going to school you can take one with you). When you graduate from college and become a millionaire then you can move to Hawaii and have a saltwater pond with some real monster fish.
You've got nothing but time.
