That was what I did too. They would say no, I would wait a while and then buy it anyway, set it up when they weren't home, etc. Often they wouldn't even notice things for weeks anyway :D.

They got mad initially but eventually they just gave up and I could bring home whatever I wanted. Often they would come to like the animals I would bring home too, lol.

The only thing they ever really freaked about was the 8 foot coastal carpet python I brought home for a while for my friend. He needed time to get supplies and a cage, etc. I had it in my house for a good three weeks before my mom noticed it, but when she did, I sure heard an earful, lol. Once she found out I was just holding it for someone she calmed down a lot, but still wanted it gone ASAP :D.

Man I've had that happen... Did you keep it in a bag under your mattress?

"I swear mom, it's not mine! I'm just holding it for someone! All the cool kids at school do it!"

Maybe I'm not on the same track... :nilly:

I agree with the others, show them you can care for the tank, and keep everything else great. Keep that 15g perfect, and they may realize you have the dedication towards school and everything else, that you can take care of a larger tank. It took me a few years, and also the fact that I am now almost 19 to get my first monster tank. I'll be getting my 175g up and running here in the next 2-3 weeks. It just takes time, and determination, show them that you are enthralled with the hobby, and they will come around eventually. GL to you :)

Nah, I actually had it setup in a 4'x2'x2' wooden cage that was previously empty for a while. It's part of a stacked system, and it was the highest one so you cant really see in it unless you stand on a step stool. The snake happened to be pushing against the front glass the day my mother finally noticed it, lol.

It really was being held for a friend, he eventually setup a cage at his house and took it from me. But I have used the "I am just holding it for someone" excuse on other occasions and that did usually work, lol.

Shotgun idea is best =]]Or ask them for a pony and some rainbows then you'll scare them and they might buy you another tank =]]

Try and explain to them the process of owning a tank. Help them understand what kind of dedication it takes to keep your fish healthy and happy. Then tell them if you aren't allowed to challenge yourself you'll never know your full potential. Then all you have to do is live up to the challenge (assuming they buy it).

Haha, thanks for the advice everyone. I think I exageratted a little on my parents (I think they know i'm a fish addict and sometimes I sit for an hour infront of my 15 just staring at the fish) I think they just want me to focus more on school. I really love your ideas though, especially the shotgun and rainbow idea. Ha! that made me laugh. Keep your ideas coming cause I really enjoy testing these out. I think that if I came home with a fish tank though, my parents would smash it on the ground the minute they saw it (asians). Ha. Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the replies!
