Ok fellas. I've done the research.

There are two variations of Jellybean Parrots. One variation is the result of a male pink convict crossed with a female blood parrot. The resulting fry are white in color with a parrotish body shape, but near normal mouth. The reason they were crossed against convicts was because the resulting fry are much hardier than regular blood parrots and withstand dyeing and tattooing better. This variation of Jellybean Parrot is almost always dyed.

The other variation is called a Jellybean Convict, or a short-bodied convict. To be fair, these are often called Jellybean Parrots as well, but it seems this is incorrect. These fry are the result of one or two parents with the 'short body' gene. These fish are essentially still Amatitlania nigrofasciatum, just line bred for the short bodies.

Actually the first information is wrong. Blood Parrot X Pink Convict hybrids don't ended up as white fish with parrotish body shape. Some members on this forum have tried this combo and the results of this combo do not look same fish as Jellybean parrots. You just got oversized convict-like fish instead of white short bodied fish.

Did you read the whole thread where you found the posts?

Yes. Most of these threads were only a few pages. I didn't find anyone who has crossed a parrot and a convict. I'm sure its been done at some point. It's obviously not difficult.

Either way, Jellybean parrots utilize parrot blood. Whether it be first generation or second.

Again Jellybean parrot DO not have any parrot blood. It is best thing if you don't use the term "Jellybeans" apply to the TRUE blood parrot X convict hybrid.

So as I was doing a water change yesterday, I noticed the male convict... wandering for lack of a better term. Some of the fry were getting picked off, and the female parrot was really stressing. I decided to move them out. I siphoned almost all of them and I have them in the 10g. The 10g had cherry shrimp and a betta in it. I fed the cherry shrimp to my Green terror tank (which they loved) and I have the betta in a temporary tub until I decide what to do with him.

The fry in the 10g seem to be doing well. It's moderately planted filtered by a powerhead/sponge combo already and I fed them last night. There are roughly 100-150 I'd guess in there, and there are actually some still in the 125g that I missed. Looks like about 20-30 or so. So a significant number of fry did get picked off in the 125g and I'd guess the same fate for the remaining handful.

I'll feed and monitor the large group myself and hopefully raised a few to get a good idea what they will look like. As these are hybrid fish, NONE will leave my tanks. They will either be culled, or kept.

I'll do my best to keep you all updated with pictures of growth as we go along. :D

thank you for tanking the respnsible route. to everyone out there that said they want a fish like this and are going to try it on their own DONT there are enough convicts around at my petstore the were giving them away for FREE
