Ultimatum !!! Help with tank !

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What Tom just said, plus I would be adding some Seachem Stability - twice the recommended dose until things balance out. Good luck!

This is probably not very helpful, but when a similar thing happened to me with my 55, what saved me was a big wad of dirty filter floss from my LFS's display tank's filter. I put it in my filter, and the tank was properly cycled very quickly, saving my fish from major harm.

I'll say it again he tank is not cycled. Use some media from the 75 to seed the tank. Do smaller, frequent water changes. Reduce feeding, dose with the new prime/safe.

You could also filter the water through a mesh bag with some peat moss in it to lower the pH. Ammonia is less toxic at lower pH levels. Small 25% water changes and a cup of aquarium salt to the tank replacing a quarter cup with each 25% change. Add zeolite (ammo chips) in bag to the filter this will absorb ammonia the cycle will take a little but your fish will survive.

Ammonia is also less toxic at lower temperatures.

Hello; Not sure if this has been established, but my take is that both tanks may have had the bb population crash. There may not be any bb in either tank.

Perhaps some structure from a tank at a fish store or friend with a cycled tank. Plants, snails, filter media, substrate or other solid things should have some bb on the surfaces. I agree that a seeding of bb will speed up the process of getting the cycle balanced.

Sorry all of this is going on man. These guys have you covered. I suggested safe being that it will last you longer than prime.

I had real good results with tetra safestart in the past. Saw nitrates in under a week in completely new set ups. As rd said tou should probably over dose with the bb in a bottle and cut feedings down even more until the bb gets established

Oh yeah make sure you shake the crap out of the stability/safestart before you dump it in

Well this morning I woke up to a half dead bass, both of his eyes were literally pure white. And the poor guy didn't even put up a fight when I grabbed him with the net, he was still alive but I can already detect the smell of dead fish in him. He was my best eater and my most active, guy would go nuts like a puppy dog every time he saw me approaching the tank, I would throw pebbles from the couch into the air and he would go nuts thinking it was food for him. Had to put him down this morning. Sucks when this happens, the other 2 x bass are doing fine but friend is going to put them in his pond for a few weeks or month until my tank settles. Everyone else is doing ok, I will be purchasing Tetra Safe start today, is just that is expensive as heck at petsmart. Also planning on adding another 2262 eheim packed with bio filtration. I think 2 x Eheim 2262 2 x AC110 and 2 x SunSun402B should be enough filtration for my 220 G.

My Azul's are getting big enough to go in the big tank, I will see how this whole thing ends up. :/

Buy extra safestart. And dont do any wc or add dechlorinator before dosing. I think you have to wait 24 or 48 hrs to dose safestart after using prime or any dechlorinator. Amazon has it for a good price. Feed very lightly. Dose for the whole tank you"ll probably need 6 bottles to be safe maybe more depending on how many doses it takes to get nitrates and even then it wont be mature so continue to feed lightly. 3 bottles would treat 225 (75 gal per bottle if you buy the larger bottle size) i always do extra doses. Ive tried stability and safestart worked much better for me.

Would also get safe it will last you longer and you wont have to worry about what your lfs is refilling your prime with anymore. Hope this helps but i would definitly seek/listen to the other members advice

I mean on my 220 G I have to do water changes at least once I week, I lose about 5-10 % in water evaporation a week. Would u recommend just topping the tank off rather than doing a water change ? Ill purchase safestart today and give it a try. Should I add safestart or Stability daily to the tank or wait longer ?

That sucks dude.. good luck on the recovery.

This is probably more for RD.. but if the store was watering down the prime... is it even useful at all? Does the presence of any water "activate" the Prime in some way as a whole?
