- Alright, so as soon as I get home ill do a small water change and use prime, thank you very much. Ill wait 24 hr before I add safestart

Read the link i pm'd you then come back to this thread with questions

Agreed, some salt about a cup as I suggested will help relieve the irritation and decrease the potential of Methemoglobinemia (nitrite poisoning) during the nitrification process. If you should have a fish that becomes severely distressed a 30 min bath in methylene blue will help and increase its chance of survival.

I don't want this post to get lost.

After all is said and done... I would love for you to test out the refill of "Prime" from the LFS and confront him. You seem like a good guy who cares about his fish and wants to learn, and some snake from a LFS trying to pass bad product on you started all of this.

You said your buddy has a pond.. does he also have other tanks? You can throw some of your friends seeded material on top of a clean sponge and let it multiply while the Safestart etc is doing its work.

Also don't be alarmed if the tank gets real cloudy with Safestart after a few days. Those are the colonies building. I have used Safestart before with good results. Follow the directions of all the pros here and the bottle.

Still have about a cap full of the refill container i purchased from him. I mean for quite sometime now i suspected i wasn't building any BB in my tank, but fish weren't acting up and looked healthy, so there was no reason for me to be alarmed. I just returned home and i purchased Seachem ammonia alert and came with Seachem PH alert. But i have no idea how to read this? they're in the tank but what should i be looking for ? I topped the 10% of water that was missing from evaporation , added prime and the recommended dosage of aquarium salt for my 220 G. My clown knife eyes are flaky as in burned on the sides and flaking off :( . I hope he makes it, i had him since he was 4", he's 20" now

Also my Silver Aro is taking it like a champ along with my Endli, they have no signs of ammonia burn in their eyes and the aro appetite still ok, shes swimming around the tank, looking for food.

I have no idea how to read this Seachem Ammonia Alert and Seachem PH alert, they're inside my tank already but am not sure what am looking for. I know it has color coding, but is there anything specific i should be seeing?

After a quick youtube video i saw what i needed to see about Seachem PH alert and Seachem Ammonia Alert. Well, according to both here are the results :

PH : 6.0
Ammonia : Its between a Safe and Alert yellowish. More safe than alert.

It makes no sense seeing thats going on in my tank, i did add some prime today so , maybe ill stay put after 24 hrs and see if the seachem alert changes .

If your pH is 6 it will help as the ammonia is less toxic. Did you add any salt? See post #74.
