Hello, I have a 180 gallon aquarium with one single 4 inch umbee, I want to center the tank around the umbee, just want to see what options I have or if anyone has any opinions on tankmates? I know other cichlids might not be the best idea but what about polyterus or clown knifes?

ive had luck with bigger plecos( Columbian highfin and Rhino plecos are my fav) . I’ve also kept Redtail cats with them for a little while but the Redtails are predators also, and if your umbee isn’t growing fast enough then it could become a snack.

just another question llol my umbee is very shy in my 180 and will not eat in front of me, also very skiddish when he sees me, wondering what I can do to help?

A large black shark can get very aggressive, and can even take on a dovii.

As far as the shyness, it will go away as it gets larger. Not much you can do but give it time, and it may take months.

Thanks for the response, ya I figure the most I could do for now is give him good hiding spots and clean water lol I was more worried about him or her not eating that much

hello, Im going to try feeding him with rosy minnows to get him or her abit chunkier, any thoughts?

I would stick to pellets and supplement with frozen treats (shrimp, tilapia chunks) if it will take them.

What are you feeding currently and what temperature is the water?

Stick to pellets he or she will come round, a 4inch fish alone in a 180 is going to take time to gain confidence.
Same 4 inch fish in a small tank will gain confidence a lot quicker, they feel safe and secure.
Stick it out, have patience he or she will soon grow into your 180 tank, and eventually out grow it.
