Umbee tankmates?? Is it possible??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the repsonse, it makes sense what your saying but yesterdag I did notice blue starting to form on the body, the umbee is almost 6 inches

Yeah, you never know, I'm definitely no expert. On GuapoteMel youtube page, I've seen darker females, and brighter, yellowish males before.

Yours is a female. That black dorsal and the dark pelvic fins are a give away. A male can sometimes mimic the looks of a female, but that's usually only if it's a subdominant malr. Your female has some nice colors though! And they usually only turn yellowish when spawning

Hello again, I might of found a potential tankmate for my umbee, I found someone in my area who's selling a 13 inch polyterus ansorgii who he assures is a fish that can hold his own against some pretty mean fish ( comes from a tank of peacock bass, jaguars and vieja) , should I give it a shot? Opinions?

Have an extra tank if your plan doesn't work?

I've had luck with poly's and devil's and also flowerhorns. I think it's because they look nothing like the species and they showed no threat. It could work, but as stated have something ready in case things go south fast

I would stick to pellets and supplement with frozen treats (shrimp, tilapia chunks) if it will take them.

What are you feeding currently and what temperature is the water?
also try things like frozen sinking cichlid cubes - they're super fatty and good to buff up a lil guy like yours! Good luck!
