Umbee vs dovii personality!

Its all just a matter of personal opinions. As you can see theres a lot more Dovii fans on here cause they show color earlier which works for most as some are impatient and dont grow fish out. Umbees are late bloomers and keep getting better looking with age and size. In my expirience Doviis are very aggressive by nature and early on. theyll clean out a whole tank even if its full of dovii. Like i stated earlier about the larger ones ive kept that like to attack the decor and filters which cause damage to themselves, to me thats very irritating:/ Tend to be skittish untill they reach 10-12" Dont get me wrong, I love the colors and attitude of the dovii very much and if i had extra room i might consider keeping one again. But Since i started keeping Umbees, ive realized that they arent as hard on each other when young, very friendly starting at small sizes, great personalities as well. As far as attitudes i think they are more of a dominant fish and not a psycho killer like dovii. And its very rewarding to grow them out and have them blossom into a showpiece. Not everyone has umbees or very nice umbees but there are more people who own dovii and to me they all look very similar... Hard to distinguish from one another other than size LOL umbees have size, color, freckles that can put them in different categories from eachother. And as long as i have umbees ill never have a dovii untill i have more monster tanks, which might be a long while. It sound to me like your leaning towards umbees. Both species are very easy to obtain so why not try both and decide for yourself
Ive had my dovii for 2 weeks its around 12 inches... Big pansy fish lol. Allways hiding, when ever anyone walks into room he scoots back under his log. Not living up to what I have heard about them.

Well said FWP! I have pairs of both had my dovii for a year from 3 inch and had my umbee pair for 3 months from 3 inch. My Umbee behaviour is very uniuqe and Im really enjoying watching him grow! Love my Dovii but if I had to choose just from raising one pair of each I think I would lean towards my Umbee.
I have kept both Umbee & dovii, I liked them both, but I would have to say that I like the Umbees personality better & colors as well. There Umbee that I had was more personal, owner responsive... I would have to suggest Umbee
well up until cichlidfever's post it seem a lot of you haven't read the title of the post, the op hasn't asked which fish looks better but rather which has a better personality....... like I'v said I'v never seen fish with as much personality as dovii although umbee are in the race and yet to find a fish as personable as croc (my 19"er)
if color and overall beauty is what your really after I'd recommend umbee as they are a very beautiful fish and grow nice long trailers that a dovii lacks all while still giving you a personality you can enjoy not taking away from the beauty of a dovii
if you choose an umbee though make you sure you buy from a quality source to optimize your umbee experience and if you end up going with a dovii just lmk and I will hook you up

(I got some grow outs for you now)My avatar is an umbee. Thats what I am currently keeping at the moment. I still do favor dovii in looks and personality. I'm pretty sure that you've kept other fish besides your ultimate favorite.
