I'll try and find some old pictures. I kept Varanus for a while. Just got rid of my last one because he unseamed my arm (Nile Monitor)
Wow!!! I love moniter-type lizards. I've seen them at pet stores in 10 gallon cages. Makes me sad. I have always wanted one.
Don't mean to be a dream killer here, but unless you know what you are doing, and have experience with them prior to owning, I recommend leaving almost all the Varanus sp. at the store ?. Savannah Monitors and ackies are different but I've never seen intelligence like I have with these lizards. Almost every one of my Nile monitors has sized me up and tried to figure out if they could eat me. Some of them have tried. Get a nicer lizard ???
Haha!!! I know! When they were babies, I would see them at PetCo in small cages. I do realize that they can get 6.5 feet. How many have you had?
All of my mature adults were 7', with a big male I had closer to 7.5. I have had 6 Nile monitors over the years, along with a black throat and some Croc monitors.
I started off in large reptiles, many of which are aquatic and that pulled me into monster freshwater.
I'll have to look through old albums when I get home. Haven't had monitors in a minute because I'm getting too old to keep up with that type of animal.
