To the OP, please compare your fish with the 4 and 8 month old pacu in the thread you started asking for pictures of pacu.

Your pacu appear to be much smaller than the pacu the same age in your other thread. I don't think people are trolling when they ask about tank size and comment about the water. High nitrates can cause stunting, and a host of other problems including premature death. Pacu can live 30+ years in the right environment. They live about 2 years in a small tank (75 gallons) with poor water parameters. Not only will they be stunted, but they will probably die suddenly. It is virtually impossible to maintain excellent water parameters for pacu if they are kept in a small tank. From my personal experience, 300 gallons is too small. We have been trying for over 3 years to upgrade to a large tank for our pacu. It is not easy when you have to build a room big enough to house a suitable tank for them. It is possible for my pacu to survive in the 300 gallon tank which they have now been in for 6 1/2 years. They can still turn around in it, and with very large water changes, we can maintain excellent water parameters. The sad part is that they do not have enough water to swim in. The tank is only 2' high, and when they pick up food off the floor, their tails are out of the water.

It is just wrong to keep fish like this (the pacu on the right is turning and is much bigger than he appears in the picture) Until we get the big tank set up, all we can do is keep doing very large water changes to keep the nitrates low for our fish. But it is a very sad thing to keep fish this way.

Nice Pacu.

Yes his have grown very slow, we have 5 at in a 20x5x4. they are all about 3.5-4ft. Nasty little bugger but they took the poor turtles leg off.

Also aren't the OPS pacu another type of pacu? I am no pacu expert but to my understand there are 3 kinds kept in fish tanks?

mmm

Colossoma brachypomum - Red-bellyed Pacu, Common Pacu or Red Pacu
Colossoma macropomum - Tambaqui, Black Pacu, Black-finned Pacu, or Gamitana
Colossoma oculus
Colossoma orbignyanum
Acnodon normani - Sheep pacu
Acnodon oligacanthus
Ossubtus xinguensi - Parrot pacu

^^^ Maybe some grow slower others faster? Theres also lots of pages on Pacu eating the wrong types of nuts... fisher nuts. dam pacu.

Totally agree with you pacu mom! And F1....you seem to be the only one trolling! Not sure if your just trying to get your post count up so you feel you should make comments in every thread started but it is ok to not comment sometimes.I never said nothing negative about his fish.Just the nasty looking conditions they are living in.You seem to be the only one defending them so maybe you are the op under another name? And if his parameters were good his fish would be much larger. For a guy that just wants to get along you sure write some annoying things. Later!

sorry for having heart.... Complimenting on someone's fish and giving them the benefit of the doubt is hardly trolling, that's obviously a pretty pathetic ploy for attention.

I'm the only one defending him? Maybe re read the whole thread, plenty of people gave him the benefit of doubt and respect, pacumom stated some great info and advice as I pointed out, she has much compassion for these fish so I understand where SHE is coming from, but I have no clue where you are coming from or going. First time I've seen you, already 2nd to make my ignore list.

now your saying I'm him...?

Do you think someone will accept help if their ridiculed? We all start out somewhere in this hobby, even the best once had stunted fish in a small tank, we learn, we grow and that is the beauty of this amazing hobby!

All in the pictures are red bellies. As they get bigger, they lose the red color.

Really? I knew they lost their color but I didn't realize it changed that dramatically. VERY interesting, that.

I would have sworn Draco Hugo's fish was a black pacu, Colossoma macropomum. Could you please clarify on this point? I defer to your much greater knowledge on this type of fish. I'm trying to learn. :)
