To the OP, please compare your fish with the 4 and 8 month old pacu in the thread you started asking for pictures of pacu.

Your 8-month old pacu

Draco Hugo's 4-month old pacu

ExoticGREENS's 8-month old pacu

Your pacu appear to be much smaller than the pacu the same age in your other thread. I don't think people are trolling when they ask about tank size and comment about the water. High nitrates can cause stunting, and a host of other problems including premature death. Pacu can live 30+ years in the right environment. They live about 2 years in a small tank (75 gallons) with poor water parameters. Not only will they be stunted, but they will probably die suddenly. It is virtually impossible to maintain excellent water parameters for pacu if they are kept in a small tank. From my personal experience, 300 gallons is too small. We have been trying for over 3 years to upgrade to a large tank for our pacu. It is not easy when you have to build a room big enough to house a suitable tank for them. It is possible for my pacu to survive in the 300 gallon tank which they have now been in for 6 1/2 years. They can still turn around in it, and with very large water changes, we can maintain excellent water parameters. The sad part is that they do not have enough water to swim in. The tank is only 2' high, and when they pick up food off the floor, their tails are out of the water.
It is just wrong to keep fish like this (the pacu on the right is turning and is much bigger than he appears in the picture) Until we get the big tank set up, all we can do is keep doing very large water changes to keep the nitrates low for our fish. But it is a very sad thing to keep fish this way.
