Update on Merlion Dreamfish Asian arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hello there, new here and was oddly enough just looking into the MerLion "Premium Super Red" being brought here to Canada... Am lurking about trying to get as much info as I possibly can before I commit to the purchase. Have a few 150 Cichlid tanks going however have always had my eye on an Asian Aro and finally got the suitable tank in and cycled for one.
Nervous to pull the trigger though to be honest as there are so many unethical people out there.
any thoughts or feedback on who is reliable and which farms to look at ?

Thank you in advance

We are such a thinly traded market for Asian arowana in Canada. If you want to research the farms, I would look at the overseas social media forums. I have been importing Asian arowana for almost 20 years, almost non-stop. You can see documentation for my imports going back to 2005 here: https://arowanaclub.ca/forums/forums/dragonfish-canada-wholesale-import.25/ Obviously I like the farms I import from. But I honestly think that most farms are good and trustworthy. And every farm will have some very nice fish.

As far as Canadian importers go, provided you are dealing with actual importers in Canada you should be fine. That means a Canadian area code phone number you can call, a Canadian street address you can check out by Google Street View, and some verified purchases online from people who will provide character reference.

Whatever you do, avoid the scammers who post offers "too good to be true", that ask to be paid by Western Union, that operate exclusively on FB. Bad bad bad :) See: https://arowanaclub.ca/forums/threads/more-scams-warning-to-usa-aro-keepers.4924/

Where are you located? There are some good LFS in Toronto that carry Aros. Mississauga Aquarium has Sing I believe. And Vince at VAquatics should have some nice fish I bet. And there are a couple other fellows selling on Kijiji who are trustworthy.

Good luck.

A seldom seen Asian arowana coming to Canada on this current order:
Looks very nice indeed!

Question for the esteemed community. When looking for an Asian Red what would you look for in the quality.
From my research I am lead to believe that I would want to look at
~ Even swimming
~ Barbells out and up
~Sheen to scales
~If red that the fins and lips would be first to show color in a juvenile however is near impossible to tell the outcome at adulthood

Anything other info would be greatly appreciated. I am confused as to the colors and such, how does one know how an adult will turn out? I am assuming it is just from the farm genetics and hope you get a good one?
