Updates from the 300

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No need to soak. The fish go at them with no issues. The ansorgii seems to prefer the Northfin over the Hikari which is a bit odd since most fish go crazy for the carnivore/massivore food.

Wow im amaze how big they got, that weeksii is faaattt, i love the color of the lap. What about your endli dabolas aggression, is he better it the big group now?

Yeah the weeksii is thick but really not growing or growing so sloooooow that its not registering as growth when I look at it. Lol

The endli has mellowed quite a bit. He lets the koliba nestle up during poly pile time and Ive seen the tail biting behavior go away. The only agression seems directed oddly at the laps. Even the ansorgii did not get chased or bit up. A couple nudges now and then and thats it.

As the polys grow the tank starts to feel 'full', Im looking at reducing numbers and to help keep maintenance low. I have loved the fact aggression is low but wonder if that would still be the case if I were to rehome some....

There's barely anything in your 300. Seems kinda empty to me :-) I've owned cichlids before. Seems as 1 cichlid equates to 4-5 polys of same size for bio. I'd say keep only pork chop and get a few more polys. :-)

I have noticed maintenance already increasing as I added these fish. Part of the big tank idea was fewer fish but all larger statement fish. Porkchop will never go and with the het an snook just make a perfect trio. So all upper fish stay.

The poly crew... well Ive discussed the fact that I dont like my cb teugelsi on many occasions. Maybe not a huge issue since it has less body mass but it does eat a lot! The koliba is kind of ho hum in my opinion too. Others have said it looks good but to me very bland.

Rehoming those two would bring me down to these 4 polys at their current sizes and allow for more room for their growth.
Dabola endli (Tinkisso river) 18"
Weeksii 13 - 13.5"
Faranah Guinea lap 14.5 - 15"
Ansorgii 13 - 13.5"

Not saying 100% Im going to do it but IF the maintenance level goes up too much with these six large polys then it is time to lessen the bio load a little.
