This is ridiculous. People are trying to be nice and help you out, Convict_Breeder, but things don't seem to register. I'm just curious to how old you are? I don't think age has alot to do with anything (I'm 17, and I've met 14 year olds who will school me in Ichthyology, and I've completed college Philosophy classes at my age), but I am genuinely curious.
I would highly suggest keeping that bookshelf and going and buying a bunch of books on Aquariums (Try to get one of Takashi Amano's "Nature Aquarium World" books), and Cichlids, mainly Central and South american Cichlids. It's going to take money, and your aquariums will stay the same for a while (which the fish will appreciate for a change, I'm sure), but you will definately be thankful you did it when you have a thriving tank down the road. I think it could possibly do you wonders if you read over a couple books a few times each. I am far from an expert, but there are definately many basic fish husbandry flaws here. It may sound harsh, but I have a couple questions to ask:
I noticed you had 2 or 3 peices of small gravel in the tank. Did you just like those specific peices and decide to plop them into the tank one day by themselves?
Did you ever seriously consider taking those Jack Dempseys from your family, when even the tank you're planning on getting won't be nearly sufficent enough to house them?
When in one's mind does the thought of "I wonder if it's cool to feed fish my bologna..." sound like a good idea?
