Urgent please help! Stringy poop!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
this is exactly the way it is behaving..it comes out when i call it out like normally for food but it doesn't eat. I think this is constipation due to overfeeding. Also the stringy poop is now gone..at least it's not hanging anymore...shall i try feeding it pea?
Thinking of doing a water change again by, this by adding salt? 50% water change for a 35 gallon aquarium, how much salt shall i add?

Ok i just researched a bit on constipation in fish and my seems to have all the symptoms! Used to feed it only hikari pellets but have changed it for the past 3 months. I think this might be the issue. Any experience with constipation in fish here? and how to treat it? does water change and adding salt help? feeding it vegetables seems to be the main treatment but my fish is not accepting food!
P.S: Is iodized salt and epsom salt the same thing???

i also feed my cichlids the hikari chichlid gold pellets along with a small amount of the seachem flakes for a little diversity.

Ok so i got out and got epsom salt but i have no idea how to use it.The above thread says soak the pellets with it but my fish will not take anything. Has stopped eating for the past 4 days. Cant bathe it because i have never removed my fish from the tank for the past one year as it gets very stressed when moved and starts jumping. It is quite big. So the only thing i can do is do water changes using this salt. Is this effective? i am gonna do 50% change by adding 5 tbs of epsom salt mix it with the new water and add it to the aquarium. Can i do this? also since morning the white stringy poop is gone and it looks little better though the bloat exists and it is still not eating. So i am confused if i should do the treatment or wait and see ?my new aquarium comes tonight! please help what's the best option now?
1. Do the epsom salt treatment in the old tank.
2. Just relocate the fish tonight and see if it gets back to normal by itself with good filtration, new aquarium habitat.
3. Wait for the new tank, relocate the fish and then do immediate treatment!

Continue with the treatment. Mixing with water also works. Dont feed during this time.

Also, moving the fish now will stress it more. Just let it be.

Good luck.

with bloat the sooner you start the treatment, the better chance of survival. bloat claims a lot of fish. i have lost two from it. Also, i assume that your new tank is larger. it costs more to treat a larger tank. no that epsom salt is expensive but if you also treat with the metro, that will up treatment costs as well.

done thanks for your help!i will start right away. I have 20g of two packs of epsom salt. It was not expensive at all tbh. Since i will be doing 50 % change. How much should i add to the water? my tank is 35 gallons. Half of it would be roughly 17 gallons. How much tbs for this? 3 or 4?

Did the medication not sure it's working...the white stringy poop is now back...labored breathing continues..i am scared i might lose this one which is terrible...i wish someone would help me by saying how much of epsom salt i need to put in the tank and whether it should be done while changing water....
The only positive is the fish is still very much active and swimming normally...not sure for how long...
